Most Common Cosmetic Dermatologic Procedures

ASDS Consumer Cosmetic Dermatologic Procedure Survey Recently, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery released their consumer survey of Cosmetic Dermatologic procedures.   There were many interesting findings why patients were seeking such procedures and what procedures they were looking for. Who influenced these consumers regarding their procedures? Surprisingly, while 50% of these consumers listed their Dermatologist as the most important, more than 40% listed their friends and more than 30% listed their primary care physician.  This indicates the importance of referrals from friends and families as well as the importance of other physician specialties in the recommendation of cosmetic procedures. Why are consumers exploring cosmetic dermatologic procedures? These finding were very interesting and also not surprising.  Consumer comments included “I want to feel more confident”, “I want to appear more attractive”, and “I want to look as young as I feel or better than my age”.  These are common refrains that we hear from our patients at Beleza Medspa.  When asked for reasons why they are waiting for such procedures they commented “Cost”, “May be painful” and “May not get the results I am looking for”.  Beleza medspa tries to reduce such concerns by offering specials and deals, less invasive and painful procedures and by trying to offer only procedures that are proven to be clinically effective. What are consumers bothered by? Again, these findings were interesting and not surprising.  The top body concerns were: “Excess weight on any part of the body”, “Line and wrinkles under the eyes”, “Excess fat under the chin/neck” and “Skin texture and or discoloration”.  Beleza Medspa offers solutions for all of these concerns including to lose fat, for eye wrinkles, double chins and skin texture and pigment problems. What are the most common Cosmetic Dermatologic Procedures? The most popular procedures included body sculpting, treatments to tighten skin or smooth wrinkles using ultrasound, laser, light, or radiofrequency, microdermabrasion and laser hair removal.  Beleza Medspa offers Liposuction and Coolsculpting, Ultherapy, Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing, ThermiVa and Hydrafacials (replacing microdermabrasion). Which procedures did consumers find the most satisfying? Consumers rated the following procedures as most satisfying: injectable wrinkle relaxers and fillers, body sculpting,  laser and light treatments for redness, tone or scars, laser tattoo removal, vein treatments and chemical peels.  Beleza Medspa offers many of these procedures including Botox, Xeomin and Juvederm, Coolsculpting and Liposuction, IPL Photofacials, Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing, Sclerotherapy and Chemical Peels. How much do consumers pay for skin care? Almost 80% of Consumers reported spending up to $100 a month on skin care products and more than half would prefer to pay more up front to lower their costs annually.  Beleza Medspa has several programs designed specifically to lower the costs for regular skin care including the Beleza Babe Vip Program and the Fresh Skin Club.…

Christie Brinkley Named Spokeswoman for Ultherapy

ULTHERAPY: NON-INVASIVE SKIN TIGHTENING As you may have seen in the news last October, Christie Brinkley came forward to People Magazine about her experience with two anti-aging procedures: Ultherapy and Xeomin. While this news may have come as a shock to most people, for me, I was relieved! For years Brinkley, 63, has claimed her anti-aging secrets include a strict vegetarian diet, an intense fitness schedule, and an over-the-top skin care regimen with the occasional filler and laser treatment. I always thought there might be more to the story and I praise her for her honesty. I personally underwent Ultherapy for the first time almost three weeks ago on my crow’s-feet and under my eyes. For years I have battled fine lines under my eyes and they have always bothered me. I have almost tried every noninvasive procedure (except filler) and I am not interested going under the knife at this point. To be clear, I receive regular Botox treatments, I have consistently used of top-of-the-line eye creams and gels since I was 19, I have had Microneedling with PRP, and I also had PRP injections under my eyes last July. I still have fine lines under my eyes. I realize we are all our own worst critics, but everyone’s got their “thing” and my under-eye lines bother me. I am 33 years old now and I know those lines are just going to get worse, so I opted to try Ultherapy, to see what Christie Brinkley has been raving about. And, let’s be honest. I am working for a top-ranked medical spa, there’s no excuse not to try everything, right!? Before I get into my experience with Ultherapy at Beleza, let’s break down the basics of the procedure so everyone is on the same page. WHAT IS ULTHERAPY? Ultherapy is a non-invasive / nonsurgical procedure using ultrasound technology to lift the brows and mid-face and tighten the neck and area under the chin. It also can treat fine lines and wrinkles in the décolletage area. What I like about this innovative technology is that it uses your body’s own regenerative response to gently and gradually lift skin and smooth lines and wrinkles. It is also the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the FDA to actually lift skin — who knew!? HOW DOES ULTHERAPY WORK? Ultherapy uses ultrasound imaging to pass energy through the superficial layers of the skin to target the deeper, core area where collagen production occurs. What is great about Ultherapy being the only cosmetic procedure to use ultrasound imaging is that it allows your provider to see the layers of tissue being targeted to ensure the energy is distributed where it will be most beneficial. During the procedure, your tissue will undergo what is called “neocollagenesis,” which is the increased production of new collagen. Over time, this increase produces a noticeably rejuvenated, uplifted look, which is exactly what you want to happen! DOES ULTHERAPY HURT? This is a hard question to answer. To be perfectly honest, yes, there were parts that were uncomfortable, but looking back at my procedure, it really was not bad at all! To be effective, Ultherapy must heat the deeper layer of tissues under your skin, so it will definitely cause some discomfort in particular areas. For a regular treatment, the provider will typically do two passes over the treatment area, each at a different transducer lever. At an additional charge, you can opt for a third pass over the area, which is what I decided to do since I wanted the best treatment I could get. In a nutshell: The first pass was a cakewalk, the second pass started to get uncomfortable (not unbearable), and by the third pass when my tissues were extremely heated, I definitely felt discomfort, but it was over before I knew it. That said, I would do it again in a heartbeat and truly do not think there is anyone in the world who could not handle this procedure. The good thing is that the discomfort only lasts for a second and then it’s over. ULTHERAPY SIDE EFFECTS After my Ultherapy treatment, I had some redness and mild swelling under my eyes and on my crow’s-feet that lasted only a few hours or so. I actually liked the swelling because it made my cheek bones pop and I even had two people ask me if I had gotten Voluma that day! The following week I noticed I was sensitive under the skin where we did the procedure. Nothing intolerable at all, but definitely noticeable when I would apply my products and sunscreen. Other than that, no side effects or downtime whatsoever. CHRISTIE BRINKLEY AND ULTHERAPY What I love about Christie Brinkley coming forward as the spokeswoman for Ultherapy is that her goal was “never to look different,” says the model to People Magazine. Ultherapy uses your body’s own ability to regenerate collagen, so there is nothing artificial about it. Brinkley tells People Magazine, “But I’m almost 64. At a certain point, you might need a little something extra. When I look in the mirror, I want to feel like I look as good as I feel. And if you can have something done to feel more confident and better about yourself,…

Medical Spas: Right for You?

Med Spa Austin TX Going to a medical spa can be a relaxing and enjoyable experience as well as a way to get some actual medical procedures and treatments. Med spas are considered a combination of a medical clinic and a day spa, but the procedures and treatments that can be administered are less than what an actual medical clinic is capable of. Services Performed at Med Spas There are many services performed at med spas. From basic spa treatments like massages and exfoliations to Botox and Hydrafacials, med spas have it all. Some other treatments include facials, waxing, massages, concierge medicine, men’s health, physicals, laser hair removal and much more depending on which type of spa that you are visiting and where the spa is located. The treatments and procedures available at a med spa vary by location because there are different laws and regulations that each state and/or country has to abide by. Training Required for Med Spa Physicians & Practitioners As stated before, the type of training and certifications required vary by area. One common factor is that everyone who administers a treatment or procedure is supposed to be trained, qualified and certified for that treatment. If you are ever doubtful of a staff member’s qualifications, all you have to do is ask to see the person’s certifications. Choosing a Med Spa that is Right for You The best way to choose the med spa that is right for you is by researching what you want and/or need. Using a search engine on the internet can be helpful in finding reviews, but reviews are not always trustworthy sources when dealing with anything health related. Sometimes you can get references from your primary physician, but even family and friends are great resources for finding a trustworthy clinic. What you decide to do is completely up to you, but it is highly recommended that you research the clinic before scheduling an appointment. Best Med Spa Austin Beleza Medspa Austin has been in business for more than 10 years.  It has successfully treated tens of thousands of patients in Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park and Killeen TX.  It is among the leaders in Botox & Juvederm, Hydrafacials, Microneedling, Coolsculpting and Ultherapy.  It has multiple locations with highly experienced and trained staff.  All staff are trained by the physician owner.  This is why you may consider Beleza Medspa the Best Med Spa Austin!…

What is Collagen Protein & Collagen Peptides Found in the connective tissue of animals, especially vertebrates, collagen is a group of proteins that  are naturally found in the body. Collagen protein serves multiple functions for humans, including being the basis for connective and fibrous tissues. At Beleza, most of the focus on collagen is centered on its’ role in skin elasticity and firmness. Collagen serves as the structural support for skin, so as we age, this structure decreases. With time, age and collagen breakdown, skin looses firmness and the ability to bounce back when pulled or stretched. This loss of structure and elasticity allows gravity to take its toll and pull the fatty tissue and skin in the face downward. Wrinkles from expressions begin to linger after the expression is gone and both deep and fine lines appear. Skin Collagen Collagen is almost 90% of our skin’s dermis, so the change in the appearance of skin can be dramatic when collagen starts to fade. Around the age of thirty, collagen production in the skin decreases at an average rate of 1% a year. During the next several decades, the slowdown is even more dramatic. So, what do we do to prevent or slow down this collagen breakdown? Some of the factors are environmental and genetic; if your parents and grandparents showed their ages prematurely, it is likely that you will, too. Collagen & Sunscreen To delay the onset of wrinkles and loss of firmness as long as possible, a few steps can be taken. First, sunscreen. We probably sound like a broken record at this point, but there is nothing better you can do for your skin that slather on sunscreen every single day, and reapply when sweat or swimming is involved. Amp up your protection with sunglasses to shield the delicate skin around the eyes and a wide brimmed hat to provide shade on the face, neck and chest. Skin Antioxidants Second, never forget your antioxidants. Vitamin C and E protect your skin against free radicals and help to rebuild collagen. When you apply skincare products to a clean and dry face, apply them thickest to thinnest; this usually means your Vitamin C and E (generally supplied in the form of a serum) will be applied underneath your thicker lotions and creams. Retinols Third, use a retinol. Beleza provides prescriptions for a personalized blend of hydroquinone and retinol, which can produce a drastic difference in skin pigmentation and help to increase collagen production when applied nightly. Collagen Peptides Recent research has shown that taking collagen supplements may have many health benefits.  There are many types of collagen each composed of different collagen peptides.  These collagen peptides can be found in collagen powders & collagen pills. Collagen supplements may improve skin health by reducing wrinkles and dryness and they may also help increase muscle mass, prevent bone loss, and relieve joint pain. Collagen Induction Therapy The basis of many skin rejuvenation and skin tightening procedures involve collagen stimulation by collagen induction therapy or CIT.  CIT basically involves wounding the skin cells that produce collagen to stimulate them to make new collagen.  This can be done with needles like Microneedling, lasers like CO2 Laser Resurfacing and ultrasound like Ultherapy.…
