Surgery is a field of medicine where the physician performs a procedure to produce a change in the body.  Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to remove excess fat and produce body contouring. What is the Liposuction Procedure like? The safest way to perform liposuction, is while awake using local, tumescent anesthesia.  Prior to starting the liposuction, a salt water solution containing lidocaine is injected into the fat.  This solution provides anesthesia and prevents bleeding.  Once numb, thin hollow liposuction cannulas are used to suction away the fat. What areas of the body can be treated with Liposuction?Virtually any part of the body can be treated with liposuction.  Most common areas include abdomens, love handles and flanks, bra rolls, thighs, arms and chins. What kind of anesthesia is used for Liposuction?Liposuction can be performed under general anesthesia, but is safest performed while awake under local tumescent anesthesia.  General anesthesia is actually riskier than the liposuction procedure itself.  Tumescent anesthesia leads to a safer procedure and a much quicker liposuction recovery. What are the Liposuction Scars like?Liposuction does require multiple small incisions to be made in the skin.  The good thing is that they are very small and can be hidden in various parts of the body. What is Smart Liposuction?Smart liposuction has become to mean awake liposuction performed awake using small microcannulas and allowing drainage after the procedure.  Smartlipo involves the use of a laser while Vaser Lipo involves the use of ultrasonic energy. What is the Liposuction Cost?Liposuction is typically priced by the number of body areas treated.  Liposuction prices must also take into account the amount of fat present, as more fat means more work.  Some of our average liposuctions costs can be found here. What is the Liposuction Recovery? The recovery after liposuction performed under local anesthesia is pretty quick.  After Liposuction, patients are back on their feet immediately and should resume light activities.  Patients may return to work in 3-5 days as tolerated. What are the Liposuction Side Effects? The main side effects after tumescent liposuction are drainage, numbness and swelling.  The first 1-2 days after the procedure will be marked by the drainage of the tumescent fluid.  After the drainage stops, the liposuction areas will swell.  This swelling will take 1-2 months to resolve and is treated with massage, a compression garment and activity.  Most patients will also have some numbness in the liposuction areas for several weeks. What are the Liposuction Risks?Like any surgical procedure, liposuction risks include infection, bleeding and pain.  The good thing about tumescent liposuction is that these risks are minimized.Do you have Liposuction Before and After?See some of our liposuction before and after photos here.Where do I find Liposuction Near Me?Beleza Medspa has provided awake, tumescent liposuction to thousands of patients in the Austin area since 2008.  Beleza Medspa has a custom built, AAAHC accredited surgical suite specifically designed to provide safe liposuction surgery.  When looking for liposuction near me, consider Beleza Medspa and Plastic Surgeon Dr. Staci Hix-Hernandez MD for your free liposuction consultation.…

What is Laser Liposuction? Liposuction has been around a long time.  It basically involves the use of vacuum cannulas to suction fat from the body.  It has been refined over the years and now is mostly performed while awake using local anesthesia.   The size of the cannulas used has decreased and the emphasis has shifted to body sculpting and contouring.  Loose skin has always been an issue with liposuction.  Typically, you can see at least 50% skin retraction with aggressive liposuction.  But with areas with very loose skin, an excision of skin like a tummy tuck may be necessary.Lasers have been used on the outside of the skin for more than 20 years.  It is well known that when heat is introduced to the skin, it causes tightening and stimulates new collagen formation.  Around 8 years ago, Smartlipo (Smart Liposuction) was introduced to the market.  This was a laser specifically dedicated to laser liposuction.  The laser was used for 3 main effects:skin tightening fat melting cauterization of bleedingThe Smartlipo laser was found to be able to help provide better liposuction results.  Patients showed smoother results and tighter skin as well as less downtime and bruising.  Smartlipo didn’t replace liposuction, but made it better.  It is just another tool in the surgeon’s bag. Does Laser Lipo work? The short answer is yes!  Since the introduction of Smartlipo, many other lasers have been introduced.  The power and wavelengths of these lasers has also evolved.   Stronger power allows more energy to be introduced into the tissues in a shorter time.  The wavelength of light used is important due to what tissues they affect.  The original Smartlipo used 1064nm that mainly affected fat and blood vessels.  1064 is generally considered to be inefficient in melting fat and tightening skin.  Since then, Smartlipo now has the Smartlipo Triplex which adds 1320nm and 1440nm wavelengths.  1320nm is highly absorbed by the skin and connective tissue leading to skin tightening.  The 1440nm wavelength is highly absorbed by fat, making it ideal for melting fat.  So the Smartlipo Triplex combines the laser wavelengths to give the best fat melting, skin tightening and less downtime.Laser Lipo at Beleza Medspa We have performed over 1000 cases of laser liposuction.  We have gone from the original Smartlipo to the powerful Smartlipo Triplex.  We know the limitations of Smartlipo as well as its strengths.   We have found Smartlipo Laser Liposuction ideal for liposuction of the chin and neck.  This area is defined by a small amount of fat and usually some loose skin.  Laser lipo is the ideal tool to melt this fat while causing skin tightening.   We also routinely use the Smartlipo Laser to aid areas that need additional skin tightening.  Aggressive liposuction is always the first step in causing skin retraction.  The laser is then used at the end of the case to add heat to aid skin tightening. What is the Laser Lipo Cost? The good thing is that laser lipo shouldn’t cost you more than regular liposuction.  We include the cost of laser liposuction into all of our surgery quotes.  Our goal is to always provide you the best results with whatever tools we have to utilize. The term Smart Liposuction used to be just about the use of the laser.  We now consider Smart Liposuction to involve awake tumescent anesthesia (safer), use of microcannulas (finer) and the addition of laser lipo (better).  This is state of the art body sculpting and what you should demand from your surgeon.…

Smart Lipo

What is Smart Liposuction?Smart Lipo is a form of liposuction combining tumescent anesthesia and laser liposuction.  The ‘smart’ part comes from the brand of laser assisted liposuction used.   The advantage of smart liposuction is that it is performed totally under local anesthesia, avoiding the risks of general anesthesia.  As a result, patients are back on their feet immediately and go home numb.  The anesthesia wears off gradually, leading to a more comfortable recovery.  In addition, as the quick return to activity reduces chances of postoperative complications as well as speeds recovery.Laser LiposuctionOne of the important aspects of Smart Lipo is the laser liposuction.  Introduced at various times during the procedure, laser liposuction can improve results.  The laser is transmitted through a small fiber introduced into the fat layer.  The light is absorbed and generates heat.  It is the heat that causes the positive effects.  Fat cells absorb some of this heat and melt away.  So the laser Smart Lipo can be used to totally melt away small fatty areas and smooth out the fat layer in larger areas.  Even more important, the heat from laser liposuction tightens skin and stimulates new collagen formation.   As a results, Laser Smart Lipo can produce smoother and tighter liposuction results.Smart Lipo CostSo does Smart Lipo cost more than traditional liposuction?  Actually it costs less!  Since general anesthesia and an anesthesiologist are not needed, the cost of smart lipo is dramatically reduced.   The cost of the laser liposuction should be included in the surgeon’s fee so the overall fee is the same.   So not only is smart lipo safer than traditional liposuction, it is actually much more economical! After Smart LipoSo what happens after the smart liposuction procedure?  As we discussed previously, patients are back on their feet immediately and can resume normal activities as tolerated.   The main issue that patients deal with after smart lipo is swelling.  The areas where fat has been removed begin to accumulate lymphatic fluids and swell.  This swelling will resolve on its own over the next several weeks to months.  Patients can assist the resolution of the swelling by wearing a compression garment, getting lymphatic massage and exercising.  Skin tightening after smart lipo can take several months.I Want Laser Smart Lipo!If you have decided that smart lipo can give you the results you desire as well as the safety you demand, the next step is a free consultation.  During the consultation, we can address your needs as well as how smart lipo can help you and give you an all-inclusive smart lipo quote.…

Stomach Fat

Stress, over availability of fatty foods and lack of sleep or exercise can all contribute to the development of stomach fat, concentrated on the abdomen and frustrating to eliminate. For many, stomach fat is the “stubborn” fat that even a good diet and exercise can’t remove. Some face the issue later in life when the metabolism suddenly slows and some face it sooner, when a stressful lifestyle contributes to a physical change in the body.Stomach fat can be an indication of a dangerous underlying condition that stores fat around the vital organs when the normal fat cells are full and stretched to the max. Even if a patient is not experiencing this visceral fat buildup, it can be aesthetically displeasing to have an excess of stomach fat, especially for individuals who lead an otherwise active and fit lifestyle. One option for dealing with this excess in stomach fat is Smart Lipo, which utilizes a local anesthetic and a light sedative to eliminate the chance of discomfort during surgery but allows the patient to remain awake during the surgery and recover in the comfort of his or her own home.Smart Lipo is considered by many to be a better option than traditional liposuction because it not only removes fat, the laser tip of the device heats an additional layer of fat, causing it to melt. The melted fat is also removed and skin tightening is promoted by the heat under the skin. The downtime is also very favorable; many patients get the surgery on Friday afternoon and return to work the following Monday. For patients of traditional liposuction, the time out can be much more extensive. With very few non-invasive options, patients with stomach fat who don’t want to “go under the knife” are pretty limited. The best option for dealing with stubborn stomach fat without incisions, stitches or downtime is Coolsculpting, a fat freezing technology that freezes fat cells, causing them to die. After the treatment and for the next 8-12 months, you body naturally processes the dead cells, leading to a reduction in fat in the treated area.Stomach fat is treatable and there is no need to live with it, regardless of whether or not it is affecting your health. Both Smart Lipo and Coolsculpting allow us to help you get your ideal shape by strategically eliminating fat in undesirable areas. Plus, patients often find themselves more motivated to adopt a healthier lifestyle after an investment in their appearance, only adding to the success of the surgery.…

Laser Lipo

What is Laser Lipo? Laser lipo is short for laser liposuction.   Liposuction as we all know is the cosmetic surgery procedure to remove fat from the body.  Common liposuction areas include the belly, love handles, muffin tops, thighs, arms and chin.   Popular for more than 30 years, liposuction is traditionally performed using blunt cannulas.  A cannula is nothing more than a hollow tube with small holes at the end.   The cannula is connected to suction and as it moves through the fat, it actually vacuums fat from the area.  The trick is to remove the right amount of fat to improve the body area while not showing any signs of the procedure. In recent years, laser assisted liposuction was introduced.  The concept of laser lipo was the heat generated from the light energy absorbed would improve liposuction results.   The laser was found to melt fat, cauterize blood vessels and tighten skin.   The laser gave the surgeon new capabilities beyond just fat removal.  It also offered decreased downtime and the ability to perform finer body sculpting. What is Smartlipo? Smartlipo (also known as Smart Lipo or Smart Liposuction) was the first laser lipo machine introduced by Cynosure in 2006.  It utilized a 1064 nm wavelength laser via a small flexible laser fiber.  The laser fiber was introduced into the fat layer during the liposuction procedure.  The laser energy was absorbed by the tissues and the heat generated caused its effects.  The heat would melt fat cells, cauterize small blood vessels and cause the surrounding connective tissue and skin to tighten.Smartlipo has evolved tremendously since it’s introduction.  Power has progressed from 12 watts to 64 watts and several new wavelengths of light have been added with Smartlipo MPX and Smartlipo Triplex.  Devices for laser liposuction now target various frequencies for either fat (approximately 915 nm, 1,210 nm and 1,720 nm) or water (1,064 nm and 1,320 nm and 1440 nm).   Other companies introduced competing lasers like SlimLipo, CoolLipo and Lipolite.   All of these lasers use different wavelengths and energy levels to achieve similar results. So why choose Laser Lipo? Laser liposuction gives your surgeon an extra instrument to give you better results.  The heat generated from the laser will melt fat.  In smaller areas like the chin, it can be used alone to liquify most of the fat.  In larger areas like the belly, the laser is used after removing most of the fat with liposuction cannulas.  This leaves a smaller fat layer that the laser can be used to smooth and finely sculpt. The heat delivered by the laser liposuction fiber has also been shown to cause skin retraction and tightening.  Heat has been proven repeatedly to be able to cause skin tightening throughout the body.  Laser lipo allows for the targeted introduction of heat in higher levels than possible from the surface.  This gives the surgeon the added ability to tighten loose skin without large incisions. The other advantage of laser liposuction is the possibility of reduced downtime.  The melted fat from the laser allows easier fat removal and less trauma.  The heat can also cauterizes small blood vessels which leads to less bleeding and bruising. Which Laser Lipo device do I choose? There are a dizzying array of laser lipo devices out there with the accompanying hype.  It is confusing for the surgeon as well as the patient!  Studies have shown that it is not the laser, wavelength or power that influences the final results.  These are just the bells and whistles.  It was the actual amount of energy that was delivered to the treatment area.  When the right amount of energy was introduced, the results were similar.   So the most important deciding factor should be the surgeon’s skill and experience with laser liposuction, not the type of laser. What is the Laser Lipo Cost? The great thing about laser liposuction cost is that it doesn’t add to the price.  The cost of the equipment and the use of the laser is already included in the liposuction cost.  So you get all added benefits of the laser without any extra cost. How do I find out more about Laser Liposuction? Austin Smart Lipo

Interested in Smart Liposuction? Liposuction has certainly come a long way.  It used to require being put under with general anesthesia.  The surgeons would use large cannulas to suction the fat.  The patients were left with painful recoveries and suspect results.  The advent of tumescent anesthesia in the 80’s allowed liposuction to be performed safely, in the office under local anesthesia.  The large cannulas were replaced with much smaller, microcannulas.  These allowed for finer body sculpting an contouring.  In 2006, Smart Lipo laser lipo was introduced.  This gave the surgeon the ability to use the laser to melt fat and more importantly, tighten the skin.  This is why it was called smart liposuction, because it provided an additional tool to improve liposuction results.Previous to smart lipo, the only way to tighten the skin was with a tummy tuck.  This involves a large excision of skin and results in long recovery and scarring.  Smart Lipo laser lipo allowed a way to avoid a tummy tuck in some patients.  Since 2006, the laser technology has evolved.  We now have more power as well as different laser wavelengths to choose from.  This has enhanced our ability to provide even better laser liposuction results. So how does laser lipo work? A small laser fiber is introduced into the fat layer usually after some of the fat has already been removed.  The light of the laser is absorbed by various tissues including the fat, blood vessels and connective tissues.  The heat introduced into the fat melts it and allows more for more fat removal and smoothing.  Blood vessels are cauterized by the heat and reduces bleeding and bruising.  Finally, the connective tissue heating causes skin retraction and tightening.  Overall, we are seeing better results with less complications. What does Smart Lipo cost? The great thing is that laser lipo does not add to the cost of liposuction.  It is just an additional step during the procedure.  You get the extra results without the extra cost!  You should be quoted an all-inclusive fee for your surgery with the anesthesia, laser and follow-up costs included. Where do I find Austin Smart Lipo? Cosmetic surgeon Dr Lawrence Broder MD  at Beleza Medspa, Austin TX, has performed more than 3000 individual laser lipo procedures.  He is an expert at laser body sculpting under tumescent anesthesia.  He is also tremendously experienced at vaser ultrasonic liposuction and fat transfer.  if you are looking for Austin Smart Lipo or SmartLipo in Texas,  the cosmetic surgeons at Beleza Medspa may be able to help you. …
