Christie Brinkley Named Spokeswoman for Ultherapy

ULTHERAPY: NON-INVASIVE SKIN TIGHTENING As you may have seen in the news last October, Christie Brinkley came forward to People Magazine about her experience with two anti-aging procedures: Ultherapy and Xeomin. While this news may have come as a shock to most people, for me, I was relieved! For years Brinkley, 63, has claimed her anti-aging secrets include a strict vegetarian diet, an intense fitness schedule, and an over-the-top skin care regimen with the occasional filler and laser treatment. I always thought there might be more to the story and I praise her for her honesty. I personally underwent Ultherapy for the first time almost three weeks ago on my crow’s-feet and under my eyes. For years I have battled fine lines under my eyes and they have always bothered me. I have almost tried every noninvasive procedure (except filler) and I am not interested going under the knife at this point. To be clear, I receive regular Botox treatments, I have consistently used of top-of-the-line eye creams and gels since I was 19, I have had Microneedling with PRP, and I also had PRP injections under my eyes last July. I still have fine lines under my eyes. I realize we are all our own worst critics, but everyone’s got their “thing” and my under-eye lines bother me. I am 33 years old now and I know those lines are just going to get worse, so I opted to try Ultherapy, to see what Christie Brinkley has been raving about. And, let’s be honest. I am working for a top-ranked medical spa, there’s no excuse not to try everything, right!? Before I get into my experience with Ultherapy at Beleza, let’s break down the basics of the procedure so everyone is on the same page. WHAT IS ULTHERAPY? Ultherapy is a non-invasive / nonsurgical procedure using ultrasound technology to lift the brows and mid-face and tighten the neck and area under the chin. It also can treat fine lines and wrinkles in the décolletage area. What I like about this innovative technology is that it uses your body’s own regenerative response to gently and gradually lift skin and smooth lines and wrinkles. It is also the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the FDA to actually lift skin — who knew!? HOW DOES ULTHERAPY WORK? Ultherapy uses ultrasound imaging to pass energy through the superficial layers of the skin to target the deeper, core area where collagen production occurs. What is great about Ultherapy being the only cosmetic procedure to use ultrasound imaging is that it allows your provider to see the layers of tissue being targeted to ensure the energy is distributed where it will be most beneficial. During the procedure, your tissue will undergo what is called “neocollagenesis,” which is the increased production of new collagen. Over time, this increase produces a noticeably rejuvenated, uplifted look, which is exactly what you want to happen! DOES ULTHERAPY HURT? This is a hard question to answer. To be perfectly honest, yes, there were parts that were uncomfortable, but looking back at my procedure, it really was not bad at all! To be effective, Ultherapy must heat the deeper layer of tissues under your skin, so it will definitely cause some discomfort in particular areas. For a regular treatment, the provider will typically do two passes over the treatment area, each at a different transducer lever. At an additional charge, you can opt for a third pass over the area, which is what I decided to do since I wanted the best treatment I could get. In a nutshell: The first pass was a cakewalk, the second pass started to get uncomfortable (not unbearable), and by the third pass when my tissues were extremely heated, I definitely felt discomfort, but it was over before I knew it. That said, I would do it again in a heartbeat and truly do not think there is anyone in the world who could not handle this procedure. The good thing is that the discomfort only lasts for a second and then it’s over. ULTHERAPY SIDE EFFECTS After my Ultherapy treatment, I had some redness and mild swelling under my eyes and on my crow’s-feet that lasted only a few hours or so. I actually liked the swelling because it made my cheek bones pop and I even had two people ask me if I had gotten Voluma that day! The following week I noticed I was sensitive under the skin where we did the procedure. Nothing intolerable at all, but definitely noticeable when I would apply my products and sunscreen. Other than that, no side effects or downtime whatsoever. CHRISTIE BRINKLEY AND ULTHERAPY What I love about Christie Brinkley coming forward as the spokeswoman for Ultherapy is that her goal was “never to look different,” says the model to People Magazine. Ultherapy uses your body’s own ability to regenerate collagen, so there is nothing artificial about it. Brinkley tells People Magazine, “But I’m almost 64. At a certain point, you might need a little something extra. When I look in the mirror, I want to feel like I look as good as I feel. And if you can have something done to feel more confident and better about yourself,…

Microneedling Before and After.

I had the pleasure of having my first ever Microneedling with PRP procedure this summer. I wanted to take a moment to harp on how amazing this experience was for my skin care goals. If you’re curious about having this procedure, take a moment to read about my experience. I was blown away by the microneedling results and truly believe this procedure can do wonders on almost every skin type.  Check out my microneedling before and afters! Microneedling with PRP Preparation I have to say, I was pretty nervous going into this procedure. I have filmed Microneedling with PRP over a dozen times, so I felt like I had a pretty good grasp on how it works. The only thing I wasn’t sure about was the pain level. Every patient I had ever filmed remained calm while filming and all looked as though they were actually enjoying the procedure. I started to wonder if it hurt at all. I recruited Beleza expert injector and aesthetician, Emily Stimson, to administer my procedure who, in my humble opinion, is a MicroPen Master. When I arrived at Beleza in Cedar Park to undergo this procedure, Emily immediately began applying numbing cream to my face and explained how important the numbing cream is for microneedling — my nerves definitely grew stronger at this point. The numbing cream needs about 20-25 minutes to kick in (and we weren’t starting even 1 minute early). During that time, Emily drew my blood for the PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma. If you have a tendency to get queasy from having your blood drawn, rest assured this is a cakewalk compared to most vials. This is a TINY vial. It takes about 30 seconds for it to fill up. From there, the vial is placed into a centrifuge where it spins for 30 minutes. The centrifuge is a vital part of this procedure because it activates your blood cells and forces them to separate and release growth factors. This part of your blood is called PRP. We can use the growth factors in the PRP for cosmetic purposes to trigger your body’s repair mechanisms for skin rejuvenation. MICRONEEDLING PROCEDURE Once Emily had the syringes loaded with my body’s PRP, it was time to remove the numbing cream (gulp). By this time, I was definitely numb, but of course still nervous about the pain. Emily cleaned my face to remove the numbing cream and then applied the MicroGlide Hyaluronic Acid and the PRP to the skin. Here we go, time to microneedle! I was pleasantly surprised at the low about of pain for this procedure. You definitely can feel it, and some areas are more sensitive than others, but this procedure was a piece of cake! Anyone should be able to tolerate the pain from microneedling, if you even want to call it “pain”. Emily worked in small 1-2 inch sections. She would apply the MicroGlide and PRP on to each section and then microneedle over the 1-2 inch sections. The PRP dries so fast, so she was careful to not microneedle over a dry area. She started with my cheeks, then my chin, then the nose (which tickled SO much), then forehead, and then finished on my neck. It was over before I knew it. On a scale of 1-10, (10 being the most amount of pain), I would say there were a few areas that got up to a 6 on the pain level, but they only lasted for about a minute. The majority of the time I felt like the pain level was between a 3-4. Injections during a Microneedling with PRP treatment? The biggest myth about this procedure is that your own blood is injected into your skin. This is so false! There are no injections during this procedure. Should you want to go with a Microneedling with PRP (which includes a syringe of Voluma), or should you want to inject your PRP into the dermis of your skin, then yes, there would be injections. But, for a standard Microneedling with PRP) there are no injections. The PRP is simply applied onto your skin and then your provider performs microneedling over the PRP. After Microneedling with PRP Following my procedure, I followed Emily’s instructions very carefully to ensure I would have the best results. Beleza also provides take-home instructions for every patient, so you don’t have to worry about your post care. I was instructed to wait at least 4 hours before washing the PRP off my face, I ended up waiting 6 hours just because I didn’t have any reason to wash my face. I applied Hyaluronic Acid every hour during that 6 hours. After 6 hours, I washed my face using Elta MD’s Foaming Facial Cleanser with cool  water and then applied more Hyaluronic Acid and went to bed. It is important not to use sunscreen for at least 48 hours following your procedure. If you need to be outdoors, be sure to bring a hat or scarf. I continued this regime night and day for 2 days. At the end of the second day, I began to use SkinMedica’s TNS Recovery Complex, SkinMedica’s HA5, and Elta MD facial sunscreen, only…

PRP Hair Treatment.

Platelet Rich Plasma: A simple treatment for Hair Restoration. What is PRP? Platelets are small cells that circulate in your bloodstream.  Their sole job is to react to injuries to blood vessels.  When they come upon such damage, they break apart releasing a host of growth factors.   These growth factors not only help to stop the bleeding, but they attract other cells to begin to repair the damage. We can take advantage of these growth factors released by platelets for rejuvenation and renewal purposes.  After a standard in-office blood draw, the blood is spun down to isolate the platelets in the watery part of blood, the plasma. We draw off this platelet rich plasma (PRP) into a syringe and can then inject it all over the body.  PRP injections can then be used on many areas of the body to stimulate rejuvenation.  PRP hair treatment is one of these uses. So how does PRP Hair Restoration work? Visible hair loss is due to the loss of hair follicles in the scalp.  The remaining hair follicles are still present and able to grow new hair. Your PRP is rich with your natural growth factors and other proteins that can stimulate hair growth and repair of cell damage.  The PRP Hair treatment is believed to stimulate your remaining hair follicles to enter a growth phase and produce visible hair. How is the PRP Hair Treatment placed in the scalp? A topical anesthetic cream is placed on the scalp to give numbness.  There are two main ways to introduce the PRP into the scalp.  Micropen microneedling uses very small needles to make tiny perforations in the skin.  This allows tiny pores to be made that allow the PRP to be placed on the surface and travel down towards the hair follicles.  The other method is to use small needles to perform a series of injections into the scalp.  These two methods can be combined for best results. How long before I see any results from PRP Hair Treatments? Since we are using your own growth factors, it could take 1-2 months before you see any results.  The procedure should be repeated at the 2 month mark and then every 3-4 months as needed. Is PRP for Hair Loss safe? Yes.  PRP is from your own blood and carries no risk of any contagious disease.  There is also no  risk of allergic reaction as PRP is safe and natural. Can PRP be combined with other hair loss treatments. Yes! PRP is ideal to use along with Neograft Hair Transplant.  The PRP can be mixed with the harvested grafts and injected into the transplant areas for better results. PRP Hair Treatment Cost The great part of PRP hair treatment is that is is relatively inexpensive.  As it is done in-office with just a blood draw, PRP hair treatment is very affordable.  Contact us for a free consultation for further details.                           Find our more about Hair Transplant.…

PRP Injections

The beauty term on everyone’s lips: PRP. The long form of the term is platelet-rich plasma, and it is the newest trend in anti-aging. There are many reasons PRP Injections are so popular right now. It’s natural. Despite the popularity of fillers like Juvederm and Radiesse, there are many people who don’t like to rely on an artificial substance to enhance their look. PRP, unlike fillers, is actually you returning to you. The process is simple. Blood is drawn, spun down to separate, and treated to enhance the calcium content. Then, it is injected into the patient’s face, with a focus on deep wrinkles and trouble spots like the lines around the mouth and eyes. PRP is rich in the building blocks of your skin, and injecting it into the face provides a new base on which your skin can heal and rebuild. It’s affordable. Whether a patient wants PRP alone or a combination of traditional fillers and PRP, the addition of a PRP does not add a significant amount of cost to the procedure. Because there are no external substances used, the price is not significant in comparison to the value. Although many famous men and women have credited PRP for their youthful look, you don’t have to be a star to be able to afford the treatment. It’s long-lasting. Although the effects of PRP are not notable until the 1-3 month point, the effects are extremely long lasing and easily outlast the effects of a traditional hyaluronic acid filler. The reason is simple: rather than just filling in lines with a gel substance, PRP helps your skin rebuild its base and produce collagen in the area. It’s versatile. PRP can be injected under the skin, like a filler. Or, it can be spread over skin that is already perforated, like after a DOT treatment. Either way, it can easily be fit into another procedure and it is beneficial for use during alternate procedures because it accelerates healing, reduces bruising and enhances the effects of other treatments. If your desire is to have a real improvement in the look and feel of your skin, PRP can be paired with multiple treatments, like in the NeoJuvenescence Lift. This procedure, created for Dr. Lawrence Broder exclusively for Beleza Medical Spa, combines facial Smart Lipo, fat transfer, DOT and PRP to provide drastic improvement in the look of the face without the unnatural results of a traditional facelift. Often called the “natural” facelift option, patients turn to the NeoJuvenescence Lift for decreased downtime, decrease in scars, use of local over general anesthetic and the natural healing power of PRP. As the last step to the procedure, PRP aids in healing from the Smart Lipo and more importantly, the DOT. The truth is, we are only beginning to understand the benefits of PRP and how it can be used to preserve youth and enhance beauty. It is an incredible substance that will likely continue to benefit patients in many ways.…

Fat Transfer: What is it and why I should I want it! Fat transfer is simply the removal of fat via liposuction from one area of the body and then transferring it to another area of the body. Fat for transfer is collected somewhat differently than standard liposuction. The fat is collected under lower pressure and we avoid using any lasers during it’s harvesting.  It is then separated from the tumescent fluid or anesthetic fluid, and then is carefully under sterile conditions transferred into syringes. These syringes can then be used to inject the fat into the desired areas of the body.   Some uses of fat from fat transfer include fixing liposuction defects, natural breast augmentation, buttocks augmentation or Brazilian butt lift or facial fat transfer. Each of these that transfer areas requires different amounts of fat and different techniques to get the best results. The other thing to know about that transfer is that it contains a lot of stem cells. Stem cells are cells that can turn into any other cell of the body.   These cells are the holy Grail of rejuvenation procedures as they can be turned into new skin, fat, bone et cetera.   Fat  also contains 500 times more stem cells than the most common source which is bone marrow.   Bone marrow stem cell harvesting is very difficult and very painful.   Obviously we all have very readily accessible amounts of fat for stem cell harvesting. When we put these r stem cells into the new areas it appears that some of them do turn into new cells and give the longevity of fat transfers.   It is currently not known how to activate these cells but it  could be helped by using platelet rich plasma.   Platelet rich plasma or PRP comes from blood platelets and contains growth factors that may stimulate these stem cells in the fat. This is why we offer platelet rich plasma as an addition to our fat transfer procedures for stem cell activation. Fat Transfer Breast or Natural Breast Augmentation. Fat is an ideal component for use in increasing volume of breasts. There are no artificial implants or any worry of foreign objects.   However fat transfer breast has limited ability to increase size.   Maximum increase in size can be half  to a full cup.  But the increase is also more natural as it follows the natural curves of the breast.   The fat is injected throughout the breast to gradually build up the breast in small amounts.   The fat is a natural component of the breasts and will take root in there if properly placed and not placed under pressure.   It’s important that the breast envelope or the Breast skin have enough room to accommodate increased volume via the fat.   Fat under pressure will die.   This is why the procedure is ideal for post-pregnancy patients who enlarged breasts that have now deflated. The extra skin allows increase of size with the fat and this allows the fat to survive.   Stretching procedures such as Brava which also help stretch out the skin.   The other thing to remember about breast fat transfer is that it does disrupt the architecture of the breast. There has never been any studies showing breast-cancer caused by fat transfer however screening for breast cancer can be affected. This is why we ask for a mammogram to be completed before a breast fat transfer. Mammograms look at the architecture of the breasts via x-ray. When we do breast fat transfer some of this architecture of the breast is disrupted and this could lead to misleading diagnoses and tests. It is important to know this before going into the procedure and to have a baseline mammogram. Fat Transfer Buttocks or Brazilian Butt Lift Fat transfer for  buttocks augmentation is ideal. The buttocks contains a great deal of fat already and is  a great environment for the fat to survive. Shaping of the buttocks can easily be done using liposuction and appropriate fat transfer buttocks. The Brazilian butt lift involves more than just fat transferred to the buttocks.   The Brazilian butt lift also involves extensive Liposuction and body sculpting of the lower back and flanks.   The lower back and flanks affect the appearance of the buttocks.   A much smaller and flatter back and flanks makes the buttocks to project more and appear larger.   This is a crucial element of the Brazilian butt lift.   The transferred fat is then placed judiciously in the buttocks to accentuate the areas that need it most.   The combination of body contouring of the lower back and flanks and increase in size of the butt produces a shapelier and larger butt.   After the procedure the patient cannot sit on the buttocks  for three days and as little as possible for the first week.   This is to promote survival of the transferred fat and a compression garment will have to be worn around the chest for about a month.  Some of the fat will die naturally and refills of the fat may…

Beleza Medspa Austin TX is proud to introduce a new facelift alternative procedure, the NeoJuvenescence Lift. Utilizing the body’s own ability to heal itself, the NeoJuvenescence Lift combines both surgical and nonsurgical procedures to produce natural results. Online PR News – 30-April-2013 – The results of traditional facelift surgery are well known. It’s not hard to figure out who had a facelift, with the unnatural, pulled-back appearance it produces. Even worse, facelifts leave big scars, are expensive and require general anesthesia. Considering the cost, risks and results, the facelift is a procedure that has seen better times. “The traditional facelift like many cosmetic surgery procedures, is out of sync with what patients want in 2013,” reports Dr Lawrence Broder MD, medical director of Beleza Medspa. “Patients do not want to go under, pay exorbitant fees, have big scars and have artificial results,” he reports. What if it’s possible to harness the body’s unique ability to heal itself to produce a more natural facelift? The NeoJuvenescence Lift just does that. The Neojuvenescence Lift combines a series of rejuvenation procedures that are on the cutting edge of cosmetic surgery. It utilizes your own fat, stem cells, growth factors and skin cells to do all the work. Combining a series of cutting edge surgical and non-surgical procedures, the NeoJuvenescence Lift restores youthful facial volume and contours while draping freshened and tighter skin over it. “What we noticed over the years performing each of these procedures, is that when we combined them, results were multiplied”, reports Dr Broder. Performed entirely under local anesthesia with minimal sedation, the NeoJuvenescence Lift is safe and effective. The procedure begins with fat transfer that harvests stem cell rich fat from a donor site. Attention is then turned to the chin and neck area where smartlipo Laser Liposuction is performed. This phase of the treatment removes double chins, tightens neck skin and reduces the jowls. A blood sample is then drawn to isolate platelet rich plasma (PRP). PRP contains a wealth of natural growth factors that can stimulate stem cells and induce tissue repair. The final phase of the procedure involves DOT therapy laser resurfacing and facial fat transfer. A CO2 fractional laser is used to remove the upper layer of skin containing visible sun damage as well as providing overall skin tightening. The previously harvested fat is then transferred to the face to rebuild cheek and brow volume and youthful contours. Finally, the PRP is applied throughout the face to stimulate the stem cell differentiation into new cells and induce tissue repair. The results of the NeoJuvenescence Lift are nothing but dramatic. The skin looks tighter and fresher, the cheeks and brow appear fuller while the jawline and chin are better defined. This is all accomplished by using only the body’s ability to repair itself. No artificial fillers, large incisions or general anesthesia is necessary. Just natural results with natural face lift alternative! Dr Broder adds, “The Neojuvenescence Lift combines a series of rejuvenation procedures that are on the cutting edge of cosmetic surgery. It utilizes your own fat, stem cells, growth factors and skin cells to do all the work. Our goal is to restore youthful upper facial volume while removing the excess lower facial volume of aging. We also stimulate the skin to rebuild collagen and tighten so it drape better over the new facial contours,” he reports. “Unlike the facelift that just treats the symptoms, the Neojuvenescence Lift actually treats the underlying problems that we see as aging.” The name NeoJuvenescence Lift was chosen quite deliberately to reflect the nature of the procedure. Juvenescence means growing young and Neo is defined as new. So the Neojuvenescence Lift reflect a new ability to grow young! See the Press Release here!…

Did you see Kim Kardashian have the Microneedling with PRP Facelift? Recently on her reality show, Kim Kardashian had a Microneedling with PRP Facelift performed.  The pictures she released were dramatic and caused quite a stir.  Reactions ranged from shock to curiosity.  So what exactly did Kim have done?  What is Microneedling with PRP Facelift?  Why did her face look like that? The Microneedling with PRP Facelift. The Microneedling with PRP Facelift is a cosmetic dermatology procedure that combines a dermal filler with platelet rich plasma (PRP).   PRP is prepared by obtaining a blood sample and separating the platelets from the blood.  The platelets are then activated to release their growth factors.  These growth factors attract new cells, repair damage and stimulate new tissue growth.  A dermal filler like Juvederm or Radiesse is combined with PRP to provide volume. The combination of the facial filler and PRP leads to rejuvenation of the skin and improved appearance.  Although it has a scary name, the Microneedling with PRP Facelift, is a safe and natural treatment. Why does her face look like that? The Microneedling with PRP Facelift is usually administered with several injections.  It has the same side effects of any cosmetic injections like swelling, redness and bruising.   Kim had another type of PRP injection performed.  She had microneedling or Dermapen used to make small perforations in the skin. The PRP was then placed on the surface of her skin to be absorbed through the perforations. This gave Kim’s face the bloody appearance you see in the pictures! So who is the Microneedling with PRP Facelift for? Kim is young at 32 and appears to have good skin.  Since it is a rejuvenation procedure, the Microneedling with PRP Facelift is ideal for aging skin and/or those with advanced sun damage.  The PRP injections can be performed alone, added to a filler as in the Microneedling with PRP Facelift, added to a fat transfer procedure or added after DOT laser therapy.  These procedures can be combined depending on the individualized needs of the patient. What is Microneedling with PRP Facelift Cost? The Microneedling with PRP Facelift not only uses your own PRP, but includes a syringe of dermal filler. Depending on the filler used and the amount of PRP prepared, the Microneedling with PRP Facelift cost runs between $1200-$1500. Adipocyte Derived Stem Cells: The Future is here. Lawrence Broder, MD Beleza Medspa Austin TX By now we have all heard of stem cells.  Stem cells are unspecialized cells that have two important characteristics.  First they have the ability to self-renew by dividing.  They appear to have an almost unlimited ability to form new stem cells or other cells.  It is this ability to form other cells that is their other distinguishing characteristic.  Under special conditions they can differentiate into specialized cells   These specialized cells can then repair or replace cells in tissues and organs.   They serve as a sort of repair bank, awaiting the signal to divide and become new cells. There are two main sources of stem cells: embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells.  Embryonic stem cells come from embryos fertilized in the laboratory.  Adult stem cells are found throughout the tissues and organs of the body.  Adult stem cells are fewer in number and harder to grow in the lab.  Embryonic cells posses the ability to become any cell while adult cells appear to be limited to cell types related to their tissue of origin.  It also appears that adult stem cells are less likely to be rejected by the body. A well known source of adult stem cells is bone marrow.  These stem cells are specialized to become blood cells.  Harvesting stem cells from bone marrow is difficult and painful.  Recently, a new source of adult stem cells have been identified in our own adipose or fat.  In fact 1 gram of fat has been found to contain 500x as much stem cells as 1 gram of bone marrow.  Adipose derived stem cells (ADSC) also appear to be easy to isolate and grow.  Plus we all have an abundance of fat that is ready and easy to harvest.  Liposuction techniques are now routinely performed safely under local anesthesia. Adipose derived stem cells have been experimentally found to be able to differentiate into fat, bone, cartilage, skin, liver, nerve and blood cells.   So these ADSCs appear to have great potential for future stem cell based therapies.  Currently the only approved stem cell therapies involve the use of bone marrow transplants to replenish blood cells.  Current research is looking at repair of heart tissue, treating Chron’s disease, wound healing, and suppressing transplant rejection with adipocyte derived stem cells. So how can we use ADSCs now?  There are currently many ways to take advantage of the rich supply of ADSCs.  The field of fat transfer has become very popular with augmentation of the breast and buttocks as well as facial volume.   The fat we transfer is rich with these stem cells.  Some studies have already shown the longevity of the transfer effect is due to the stem cells and not the fat.  So we are now looking at ways to isolate these stem cells and induce them to differentiate.  Platelet rich plasma (PRP) contains many growth factors that may be able to stimulate the stem cells.  We are now beginning to add PRP to  transferred fat to improve the longevity of the fat transfer effect.  The combination of the fat stem cells and the PRP appears to also have a rejuvenating effect on the transplanted area. The other promising use of adipose derived stem cells is tissue banking.  There are numerous studies that support the ability of these ADSCs to grow and differentiate is better in younger patients.  It is now possible to harvest fat with liposuction and bank these cells indefinitely.  So as more stem cells therapies are developed, you will have a supply of younger stem cells ready to treat future disease.  This may be a real ‘fountain of youth’ that is available today!  …

How can PRP help me? Platelets are tiny cells that circulate in our blood.  Their sole mission in life is to respond to injuries throughout the body.  They work to stop the bleeding and begin repairs.  When an injury occurs, multiple factors such as blood vessel damage induce the platelets to activate.  They will change their shape and clump together, forming a plug or blood clot.  This works to  stop the bleeding. The blood clot is only a temporary solution to stop bleeding; vessel and tissue repair is  needed. The aggregated platelets help this process by secreting growth factors that promote the invasion of specialized cells from surrounding connective tissue.  These cells migrate into the wounded area to completely heal the wound and form a scar. Platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF) are biologically active substances that enhance tissue repair mechanisms, such as cell movement, cell growth, cell activation, new blood vessel formation, and rebuilding of connective tissue. So where does PRP come from?  It is these platelet derived growth factors that we seek to exploit with PRP.   Can you imagine a drug that can mimic what these growth factors can do?  There is none.  However we have plenty of our own platelets available containing all of these growth factors.  We can take a blood sample and spin it to separate the platelets.  The platelets remain in the plasma fraction of the spun blood.  We then use a calcium solution to activate the platelets.  The platelets then release their growth factors into the plasma.  We can then use this platelet rich plasma (PRP) anywhere we want to initiate cell repair and growth. PRP therapy is currently showing promising results in many fields of medicine.  PRP is being used for tendon and ligament injuries, chronic wounds, arthritis, burns, and oral surgery.  It has been shown to speed healing and induce new tissue growth.  It is an evolving treatment and new indications  are currently under investigation. So how do we use PRP at Beleza Medspa?  We are using PRP as stand alone treatment known as the Microneedling with PRP Facelift and also in combination with DOT therapy and fat transfer. Microneedling with PRP Facelift in conjunction with a dermal filler for facial rejuvenation.  The PRP attracts new cells to the area, induces cell repair and blood vessel growth.
