Botox Brow Lift

What is the Botox Brow Lift? The position of the eyebrows are critical to how are faces are perceived by others. “A younger brow has a lower central brow (near your nose), the arch is lateral (at the edge of your pupil), and the tail is elevated. An older brow has less of an arch and tends to be straighter and less curved throughout,”explains NYC-based plastic surgeon Dr. Melissa Doft.  As we age, the lateral or tail-end of the brow tends to droop making the face appear older.  The Botox Brow Lift can change this. A surgical brow lift aims to lift the brow, opening the eye and giving a more youthful appearance.  Non surgically, Botox injections can be used to produce the same effect without the expense, downtime and risks of surgery.  Specifically, Botox can be carefully placed to relax some of the muscles of the forehead that depress the brow.  This allows the muscles that elevate the brow to produce a brow lift. The great thing about the Botox Brow Lift is that it is very easy to perform, has no downtime and it will go away if you don’t like it.  It is even adjustable if you get too much lift or arching of your eyebrow! Botox Brow Lift Before and After The effects of Botox on the forehead and brow are very pleasing.  There should be a relaxation of the forehead lines or wrinkles and a slight arching of the tail-end of the brow, producing an opened, youthful eye. Botox Brow Lift Units So how many units of Botox does it take to produce a brow lift?  The great thing, is not many.  To relax the frown lines it may require 20-25 units and to relax the forehead it may take 10-15 units. Botox Brow Lift Cost As not may units of Botox are required for the brow lift, the cost is not excessive.  A typical Botox Brow Lift Cost can run from $300-$400, but is different for every individual. How Long Does a Botox Brow Lift Last? The typical effects of Botox will last 3 -4 months.  If the Botox injections are repeated before the full effect goes away, sometimes the results can last longer. Botox Forehead Lines

What are Forehead lines? We all have them, some more than others.  Those pesky forehead wrinkles can really age you and make you look sad, tired and worried.  Where do they come from?  The horizontal creases seen on the forehead skin are due to the actions of the underlying muscle, the frontalis.  The frontalis muscle runs up and down from your brow to your scalp.  It serves to raise the brow to open up the eyes.  It is this action that causes the forehead lines.  When it contracts, the overlying skin bunches up and forms a crease perpendicular to the up down action of the muscle.  When you are younger, the skin is in good shape and once the muscle relaxes, the skin snaps back and the line disappears.  These are called dynamic lines.  As we age, the skin loses elasticity due to loss of collagen from sun damage.  All of a sudden, those lines don’t go away when the muscle relaxes.  As a result, the forehead lines are there all the time or become static wrinkles. How do I get rid of forehead wrinkles? So as you can see, the frontalis muscle has to be relaxed to do anything about forehead lines.  Botox is ideal for this purposes.  Botox is a purified protein that is injected to relax the muscles of facial expression.  Anywhere from 10-20 units of Botox can relax the muscle just enough to diminish or even erase the wrinkles.  The good thing is that by relaxing the muscle, the wrinkles will not get worse.  So Botox acts as a preventative treatment.  The effect will last 3-4 months and with regular use, it can last even longer. If the forehead lines are deep and have been there for a long period of time, dermal fillers may be necessary. Relaxing the forehead with Botox can only do so much. Dermal fillers like Juvederm can fill these deep ridges and when in combination with Botox, they can make the lines essentially disappear! But as we mentioned earlier, the loss of collagen and skin elasticity is also a factor.  To begin to reverse the signs of sun damage we can use products like SkinMedica retinol, laser resurfacing, microneedling and radiofrequency treatments.  These are all designed to stimulate collagen production and restore skin elasticity.  Sunscreen and a hat to prevent further damage is critical! Do forehead lines indicate other problems? Remember that the frontalis muscle lifts the brow to open the eyes.  Some people have hooding or excess skin of their upper eyelids (ptosis).  The droopy upper eyelids actually decrease their field of vision. As a result, these people continually contract their frontalis muscle to open their eyes up.  If they Botox their foreheads, the brow will drop and their field of vision will be decreased!  Hooded upper eyelids have to be dealt with laser tightening or a blepharoplasty. Brow Shaping and Brow Lifts The goal of Botox is not to just freeze the muscles.  The brow is a complicated place with multiple muscles pulling it up and down.  An experienced Botox injector must know their way around the brow and how Botox can shape it.  There are also differences between the sexes in brow shapes.  Most women prefer an arched brow and most men like a heavy, flat brow.  Proper injection of Botox can actually simulate a brow lift in many women.  It is important to give the patient the type of brow the prefer.
