Many of our concerns with our skin actually reside in the deeper layers of skin, the dermis. What you see on the outside, is a reflection on what is happening in the dermis. Wrinkles and other signs of aging, brown spots, scars, and stretch marks are all located in these deeper layers. The outer layer of our skin, the epidermis, serves as a physical and chemical barrier to protect the deeper layer. Unfortunately, many of the topical treatments and skin treatments we use, never make it to the deeper skin layers where they are needed. To effectively treat these issues, we have to reach these deeper skin layers. We offer many ways to do this like chemical peels, laser resurfacing, IPL photofacials and some topical products. However, all of these treatments have some discomfort, risk, and prolonged downtime. Plus, many are just not very effective at getting through the epidermis.
Microneedling with the MicroPen uses 12 surgical grade needles to create small micro channels in the skin. After application of a topical anesthetic, the Micropen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding until the entire treatment area has been covered. This process results in thousands of superficial microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area. These tiny injuries to the skin have 2 purposes. The first is to make small conduits for topical gels, creams and serums to penetrate to the deeper skin layers. This allows us to precisely target the dermis where the problems we are trying to treat are located. Even better, the small injuries caused by the needles have been found to stimulate collagen formation. Collagen is the building block of the skin and this leads to skin tightening and smoothing of wrinkles.
Microneedle Therapy with the MicroPen leaves the epidermis and its barrier function totally intact. This avoids a great deal of downtime. Plus there are no heat-induced side effects of laser and light based treatments. The needle penetrations allow direct delivery of topical agents to the dermis and dermal remodeling due to mechanical stimulation. Healing from the treatment is very rapid and there is virtually no risk of scarring. It is safe for all skin types and has very little downtime.
What can Microneedling treat?
As the Microneedle gives us direct access to the dermis, the possibilities are virtually unlimited! We can apply topical anti-aging, skin lightening (melasma) and wound healing solutions before, during and after the treatment. These agents do not get stopped by the epidermis, but directly infiltrate into the dermis where the problems reside. Even more important, the mechanical stimulation of the dermis causes remodeling of collagen. This is called collagen induction therapy or collagen stimulation. Collagen is the building block of skin and its damage causes aging and scars. There is no easier way to accomplish dermal remodeling than microneedling. Acne scars and wrinkles can now be treated painlessly and effectively in office with little to no downtime.
How often should I microneedle?
The effects of microneedling take 4-6 weeks to become apparent. So it is recommended that microneedling can be repeated at 6-8 week intervals for best results. Afterwards, an annual or semi-annual microneedling session may be needed to maintain the results.
You have probably seen the GloPro microneedling at home everywhere. Does it work? Yes and no. It does penetrate the skin to have some effects, but unfortunately not enough to reach the dermis where all the real damage is. Only medical grade microneedling will do this. Remember, the great effects of microneedling depend on reaching the deep layers of the skin, the dermis. Unfortunately, microneedling at home devices can’t do this.
Beleza Medspa are your microneedling near me experts. We offer microneedling at all offices including Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park and Killeen.
The physical effects of microneedling has been proven to stimulate collagen formation. This effect can be increased by using Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP. PRP consists of growth factors that we remove from a small sample of your blood. We then place these growth factors on your skin after microneedling. The PRP growth factors then travel down the small channels created by the needles to reach the deeper layers of the skin. In the dermis, the PRP growth factors stimulate collagen repair and rejuvenation.
Hair loss is a big problem for many men and women. There is now evidence that microneedling with PRP of balding areas can stimulate hair regrowth. This is an easy and repeatable treatment for hair loss. Hair loss is due to the loss of hair follicles in the scalp. The remaining hair follicles are still present and able to grow new hair. PRP is rich with your natural growth factors and other proteins that can stimulate hair growth and repair of cell damage.
How is the PRP placed in the scalp?
A topical anesthetic cream is placed on the scalp to provide numbness. There are two main ways to introduce the PRP into the scalp. Micropen microneedling uses very small needles to make small perforations in the skin. This allows tiny pores to be made that allow the PRP to be placed on the surface and travel down towards the hair follicles. The other method is to use small needles to perform a series of small injections in the scalp. These two methods can be combined for best results.
How long before I see any results from PRP Hair Loss treatments?
Since we are using your own growth factors, it could take 1-2 months before you see any results. The procedure should be repeated at the 2 month mark and then every 3-4 months as needed.
Scars actually reside in the deeper layers of our skin. This is why they are so long lasting and hard to treat. Microneedling gives us an easy way to access these deeper layers in-office. The channels created by the needles stimulate collagen remodeling and softening of the scars.
Like scars, stretch marks are tears in the lower layers of the skin. Microneedling is ideal to reach the stretch marks and help to reduce them. Like scars, stretch marks will require multiple micro needling sessions.
