Allure Magazine announced their highly-anticipated Best of Beauty Breakthrough Awards this week recognizing the best-of-the-best in various beauty categories. Beleza was especially pleased to see that Allure awarded the 2017 Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award to three of our top-selling (and personal favorite) products: Juvéderm Volbella® XC, SkinBetter Science Alto Defense Serum, and SkinMedica® Lytera 2.0 Pigment Correcting Serum. What is  Juvéderm Volbella® XC? Juvéderm Volbella® XC (Volbella) is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler used for lip augmentation and for the correction of perioral lines, often called “lipstick lines” in adults. The lidocaine gel improves the comfort of the injection by reducing sensitivity to pain. Allergan’s new formulation in the product, the Vycross technology, separates this filler from other dermal fillers. It produces natural, softer lips and patients experience less swelling after the injections. “It’s made with a lower concentration of hyaluronic acid than any other filler out there, so it has a soft consistency and is the best option for anyone who wants a very natural look,” says Jessica Wu, a dermatologist in Los Angeles. (Allure). Where can I buy Volbella? As an added convenience to our patients, Beleza offers Volbella at all four locations making it easy on your commute to finally get those lips done. I might be a little biased, but Beleza truly does have some of the top injectors in Austin (and maybe even Texas!). As a Top 25 Allergan Aesthetic Practice in the country, (AKA Black Diamond Practice), all Beleza MedSpa injectors receive the highest level of training from Allergan directly on all injectables, including Volbella. Taking the plunge to get your lips done is nerve racking enough as it is, so it’s best to avoid the added stress of worrying about your injector’s experience. Take a seat at the big kids table and let us take care of your new perfect pout. Call or email us to book your FREE consultation: 1.800.509.9785. Sun Damage and PhotoAging Most of the aging of our skin is caused by sun exposure.  The visible signs of photoaging include wrinkles, sun spots, roughness, redness and laxity.  Much of this damage can be prevented by avoiding the sun and using sunscreen.  However, once you have sun damage, it is important to understand how it happened.  Skin consists of two main layers, the epidermis and dermis.  The epidermis basically consists of a thin layer of dead cells.  It is the lower layer, the dermis where the main structure of the skin consists.  It is here the two main components of skin, collagen and elastin are located.  Collagen gives skin its toughness and elastin gives skin its elasticity. Its is the dermis where the majority of sun damage occurs.  Specifically, UVA rays penetrate into the dermis and cause damage to the collagen and elastin fibers.  Not only does the sun damage the collagen and elastin that is present, but it actually turns off new production leading to the sun damage we see. What does MicroNeedling do? Microneedling was specifically designed to allow medical professionals to access the skin’s dermal layer.  A series of small surgical needles are used to penetrate the dermis during an in-office visit.  The needles are designed to induce small wounds in the dermis that stimulate repair and production of collagen and elastin.  This is also called collagen induction therapy (CIT) and will produce skin rejuvenation.  The other advantage to microneedling is that the small channels that are produced allow the delivery of medications to the dermis.  Most anti-aging creams out there fail to penetrate the skin to the dermis and hence fail to have any effect.  With the microchannels from microneedling, we have direct access to the dermis for drug delivery. GloPro Microneedling or Microneedling at Home. GloPro microneedling is a device designed for home use.  It combines microneedling and LED light therapy.  Does it work?  The needles on GloPro are 0.3o mm.  The skin thickness on the face can range from 0.5mm to 1.5mm.  So as you can see, for the needles to reach the dermis where the sun damage is, they must be larger than 0.5mm and preferably 1.0-1.5mm.  The Glopro needles cannot reach the dermis to produce any real, long-term changes.  Use of longer needles at home is dangerous.  The possibility of infections, scarring and allergic reactions is increased.  Professional microneedling at medical offices uses longer needles under controlled conditions.  The Glopro microneedling can induce some changes to the epidermis and skin plumping and may produce some temporary effects. Microneedling Austin @Beleza MedSpa Beleza Medspa utilizes Eclipse Micropens for microneedling procedures.  The Micropen uses disposable tips that has twelve (12) stainless steel micro‐needles (32‐gauge) which can be adjusted from 0.25 to 2.75 mm, giving physicians and aestheticians an innovative skin therapy system that is designed to cater to individual patient needs.  The Micropen is motorized and the high speed (8500 rpm) automated needling motion minimizes pain and discomfort, while better promoting an even absorption of topicals, acids and peptides into the skin which enhances overall results.  Microneedling with PRP can provide even better results.…

Long-Term Treatment of Spider Veins

Spider veins typically show up as small, blue, purple or reddish blood vessels that are just beneath the skin’s surface primarily on the legs, ankles and face. These little aggravated veins can cause embarrassment and frustration by their presence and when not treated can become more apparent. Though there is no absolute cause of spider veins, some factors that contribute to the appearance of spider veins include obesity, occupations where lots of standing is required (think teachers, hair stylists, those who work in a factory setting), a family history or spider veins and varicose veins, birth control pills, etc. Spider veins tend to happen to women more than men though both men and women experience spider veins. Not only are spider veins unappealing to the wearer visually, they also come with bothersome symptoms and contribute to tingling, restlessness, cramping sensations an overall heaviness of the legs. Some of these symptoms can be alleviated by keeping the legs elevated when possible and by wearing support hose and taking the time for physical activity for improved circulation. Not addressing spider veins can lead to swelling of the area, especially if the irritated veins are located in the ankles. Untreated varicose veins may lead to blood clots, inflammation and an overall darkening of the skin. Treating spider veins and varicose veins can be done with the help of an experienced vein specialist doctor. A treatment known as “sclerotherapy” is frequently performed to treat spider veins and varicose veins and is done by injecting a sclerosant chemical into the affected vein which causes the vein to close completely and restrict blood to the affected area which eventually results in the disappearance of the aggravated vein. The sclerotherapy injections are not without any discomfort, and the patient should expect to experience a slight burning sensations in the site of injection as the solution does its job, particularly if there are many veins present that require treatment. Each sclerotherapy session lasts from minutes to around half an hour total depending again on how many spider veins are present and how much surface of the skin they cover. Post treatment the patient is able to walk normally though it’s recommended that strenuous exercise is avoided for at least a few days and the legs should not be exposed to direct sunlight for a least a couple of weeks. Compression hose may be recommended to help the healing process and should be worn according to doctor’s orders. Those with spider veins should begin by contacting a vein specialist to discuss how sclerotherapy can be a benefit.…

The Top Advantages of Microdermabrasion

If you’ve ever wanted to deep cleanse the skin, microdermabrasion would be the top runner for the job. It goes deep down the surface of the skin, in the pores, to remove gunk, blackheads, whiteheads, as well as slough off dead skin cells. How Microdermabrasion Works A powerful and gentle crystal wand will make its way around the area, softly sloughing dead skin cells. In addition to exfoliation, microdermabrasion also polishes the surface to reveal smooth-looking skin. A perfect analogy to this treatment would be sanding pieces of wood to reveal a smooth outer surface – only this technique doesn’t hurt. Microdermabrasion isn’t only effective, it can be repeated every two weeks if needed, to promote flawless looking skin – something we all crave. Microdermabrasion is further useful for a range of clients including those who suffer from mild to moderate acne, individuals who have acne or age spots and others. Microdermabrasion has moreover been used extensively to treat scars, birthmarks, moles and other skin issues. It ca be applied all over the body, not just on the face alone. All skin types can use microdermabrasion safely and effectively. Care After Microdermabrasion After microdermabrasion, some key tips will apply: Stay clear of the sun, to protect new skin. Apply a sunblock, just to be safe. Wear a moisturizer, to help promote supple skin. Top Advantages of Microdermabrasion Promotes New Cell Growth – by removing dead skin cells, and stimulating collagen, new, fresh and younger looking skin is revealed. Clear Pores – free your pores once and for all with a deep exfoliating cleanse, that you can feel after a microdermabrasion. Stop Breakouts – many acne sufferers harness control of breakouts with regular microdermabrasion treatments. Quick Procedure – the skin-clearing routine is affectionately called the “lunch-time treatment” for good reason. Clients can schedule in advance and get it done in under an hour. Painless – this quick pick-me-upper has one added bonus, which is pain-free skin rejuvenation. Also included in its list of advantages is that microdermabrasion features low pricing. Many cosmetic techniques cost hundreds of dollars, however microdermabrasion provides exceptional results for far less – and for a range of skin issues including rosacea, scarring, wrinkles, acne and others discussed above. Mondays bring a refreshing change in pricing with Microdermabrasion Mondays, now for only $60 at the Beleza MedSpa.…

Microneedling is an alternate treatment to lasers, IPLs or chemical peels. See below about how it works and more details: How Microneedling Works. Over 200 minute needles are placed strategically on a roller-like handle. It may sound rather painful or even comparable to acupuncture, but it isn’t. A numbing agent is placed on the facial area, then tiny punctures are inserted in the skin. When enough openings are seen in the deep layers of the skin, treatments used for anti-aging are applied, giving the entire surface an instant-and-effective boost. Why Microneedling Works. In order to rejuvenate skin when there’s deep scarring like wrinkles and fine lines, dermatologists will need to go deep into the layers of the skin – where growth begins. This is why most topical treatments work minimally, and are better for the prevention of skin issues than the actual treatments thereof. Top Benefits of Microneedling Include: No Downtime – patients can get back to normal activities after treatment. No Incisions – all the facial area is left undamaged, unlike facial lifts or surgeries. No Major Side Effects – compared to heating from lasers for instance. Dermal Remodeling – treat some of the toughest skin issues, including aging and scars. Very Effective – due to microneedlles letting treatments be injected deep below the surface. Pain-Free – one of the top reasons why patients choose this method over others is that it’s virtually pain-free compared to heat induced, or acidic methods. What Does Microneedling Roller Therapy Treat? Lighten Skin – get even, flawless skin tone with topical agents. Melasma is the scientific term used for skin lightening. Anti-Aging – get rid of wrinkles, frown lines, fine lines, under eye sagging, brown spots and other symptoms of aging. Wound Healing – individuals who have damaged skin due to burns, cuts, or bruises can rejuvenate skin with the help of Microneedling. Collagen Boost – as we age, collagen production is reduced. Microneedling directly stimulates collagen production. Stretchmarks – from pregnancy or weight loss can be hard to treat, but Microneedling addresses these skin issues too. After the treatment, there may be some redness and irritation. These will subside on their own, and the results will show more clearly around two weeks post-treatment. This article addresses microneedle therapy to treat the facial area. Nevertheless, the method can be used to treat skin issues all over the body, and it can be combined with other cosmetic procedures for optimal results. This includes the Microneedling with PRP Facelift, which withdraws the patient’s blood plasma, to produce Platelet Rich Plasma, which gives an instant boost – similar to those provided by Botox.…

Botox: More Popular than Ever! Consistent with a recent Reuter’s report, Botox has been on a steady climb, overtaking breast augmentation as the most popular cosmetic procedure to date. So what can be accredited to the rising demand of Botox?  What are some Botox Uses? These factors may play a role: Botox Is Affordable – there are several payment options available, and patients are able to schedule treatments at times that are convenient to them. Non-Surgical – Botox is considered to be a non-invasive method of treating or preventing the signs of aging. Botox Has Little Downtime – many people schedule Botox injections, and then return to work the very same day. The results are furthermore inconspicuous, so no one has to know that you’ve undergone treatment – as is the case with a facial lift for instance. Considerations When Getting Botox: The treatment needs to be reoccurring in order to maintain the effects of soft, smooth skin. The doctor will recommend the best times between each session – for a natural appearance.  How long does Botox Last? Botox is recommended no more than once or twice a year, but depending on the client’s appearance, these doses can be increased – with the green light from a medical professional. Botox and your expression Botox uses a purified protein, which is technically a neurotoxin. Its effects include stopping muscle contractions, while simultaneously softening fine lines and wrinkles. Clients are able to see dramatic results, and restore how they once were in their youth. Today, even younger adults are opting for Botox – to prevent wrinkles and aging before it happens. It’s one of the quintessential fountains of youth. The doctor may use different amounts of Botox based on the patient’s response to treatment. How many units of Botox do I need? Health Impacts of Botox Uses: Botox treatments are also widely used for health issues like headaches, given that nerve tissues are located in the facial area, and these send signals that cause migraines. Botox can furthermore be used to treat jaw pain, sweating in the underarms and even depression – in some cases. Other uses for Botox include stopping or minimizing muscle spasms, as well as the teeth grinding habit that’s medically known as bruxism. It’s important to go over all the details with your doctor to grasp what to expect in terms of recovery and cost. Today, Botox is no longer a hidden agenda – as individuals are scheduling it as routinely as a dentist’s visit.  …

Celebrate Filler Friday at Beleza Medspa

Come celebrate Filler Friday at Beleza Medspa where you can receive $50 off on Juvederm, Radiesse, Restylene, or Perlane. In order to better serve our patients and help them to look their best, we’re offering special deals on the best gel fillers available on the market today! Juvederm Juvederm is smooth gel filler that adds volume in the cheeks, cheekbones, and chin, giving you a much younger and vibrant look. Juvederm helps restore the contours in your face, and after one treatment, you can expect to see amazing results that last for at least one year. The filler is also formulated with lidocane, which is an anesthetic for the patient’s comfort during the procedure. It can also help smooth away the wrinkles around your mouth and nose, giving you a much younger look. Doctors say that it’s safe cosmetic filler that helps restore fullness in your skin (mostly in the facial area). During the procedure, the doctor injects Juvederm under your skin to help smooth away the wrinkles. After the injections, patients can return to their normal activities the same day. Following the treatment, you may experience some redness, swelling, or bruising in the treated areas, however, it lasts for only one week. Radiesse The Radiesse filler is also perfect for treating deep wrinkles and lines on the facial area. As people age, the natural support structures, including collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid tend to fade over the years, resulting in lines and wrinkles in the most noticeable areas of the face. The filler is formulated with a gel and calcium microspheres. The gel acts as a filler, and the microspheres stimulate your skin to start producing collagen. Patients see immediate results after the procedure, and the filler continues to stimulate collagen production to help restore a more youthful appearance for several months afterward. Since Raidesse has a thicker consistency than other types of gels (like Juvederm and others), it offers a great solution for erasing lines and wrinkles on your face. Restylene Much like the Juvederm and Radiesse fillers, Restylene injections are ideal for adding fullness to your skin. Since the filler contains a hyaluronic gel, it acts as a natural building block to help restore the natural and youthful appearance of your skin. It consists of a hyaluronic acid gel which is a natural building block of the skin. It’s safe, and can be used to smooth out the wrinkles in several different areas of your face, including the laugh lines around your eyes. Much like BOTOX, it’s also a popular procedure for adding fullness to your lips. Perlane Also consisting of hyaluronic acid, Perlane acts as a building block for the skin. This soft, gel-like substance works as a natural filler for enhancing your lips, as well as the small lines on your face. As a natural filler, Perlane can also be used to restore the contours of your face, giving you a more youthful appearance. As the elastic and rejuvenating qualities of your skin break down, Perlane injections help restore these qualities over time. You can also receive treatments under your eyes and lips. All treatments listed above typically last up to 18 months, and Dr. Broder at Beleza Medspa is an expert when it comes to injection treatments and other cosmetic procedures.…

Using Botox to Treat Excessive Sweating

Excessive Sweating: Hyperhidrosis Our bodies sweat to keep itself cool. Exercise, physical or emotional stress, and nervousness often cause us to sweat. However, many people suffer from excessive sweating in their underarms, hands or feet. This is a conditional known as hyperhidrosis. People who suffer from hyperhidrosis often feel uncomfortable or embarrassed, may have to refrain from wearing certain types of clothing, or may even wear additional clothing to cover up the sweating. This excessive type of sweating cannot be treated or controlled with regular antiperspirants. People suffering from excessive sweating can be treated with botulinum toxin type A, commonly known as Botox. How Does Botox for Hyperhidrosis Work? Botox injections will in effect block the signals from the nerves to the sweat glands. Since the glands are not receiving chemical stimulation, they will cease producing sweat. The sweat is not actually backed up, nor does it go to other areas of the body, it simply is not being produced. It should be noted that other areas of the body will continue to sweat normally to provide the necessary cooling functions. The Botox Treatment Procedure A small amount of Botox is injected into the treatment areas — just under the skin — using a very fine needle. On average, a patient will receive about 15 injections, and the entire procedure lasts only 10 to 15 minutes. Most people will not require any type of anesthesia, and there is little to no downtime after the procedure. After the Botox Treatment Patients will experience a significant reduction in the amount of sweat being produced in about four weeks after the first treatment. The treatments last about six months. Botox does not actually cure this condition; therefore, the symptoms will gradually reoccur. At this time, your body is telling you that it may be time for subsequent Botox treatments. The possible Botox Side Effects include injection site pain or discomfort, headache, dry mouth or vision problems. Other side effects may include allergic reactions resulting in asthma symptoms, dizziness or itching. Should you feel any of these side effects that do not subside quickly, you are advised to contact your doctor. Is Botox Right for You? If you are considering Botox to treat your excessive sweating, consult with a reputable specialist to discuss whether you are a good candidate. During this consultation, you should tell your physician about any medical conditions that could affect the Botox procedure including allergies to botulinum toxin, nerve or muscle disease, or any schedule surgeries or medical procedures. Venus Freeze Treatment For Skin Tightening

Have you ever heard of Venus Freeze treatments for skin tightening? Well, if you haven’t, it’s a new non-invasive form of treatment that combines radio frequencies with magnetic pulses in order to tighten your skin, improve cellulite, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on your body. Patients who have received the treatment have said that Venus Freeze offers a painless experience for treating various parts of the body, including the face, arms, and hips. The Venus Freeze treatments are for people who want to improve their appearance by tightening the skin on certain areas of their body, thus looking much younger, and feeling more confident. The treatment seems to work especially well for mothers wanting to tighten the skin during post-pregnancy stages. So, how does it work? Venus Freeze is essentially a hand-held device that delivers radio frequencies to targeted areas, including the face, belly, and thighs. The device heats the skin, and at the same time, causes the tissue to become firm, while the magnets in the device also stimulate new collagen and elastin. The collagen in the skin contracts, while the elastin fibers unravel, causing the skin to look and feel much firmer. Patients who have received the treatment are saying the results are astonishing, and the procedure itself is completely painless. Some of them even said the treatment feels like a hot stone massage rather than a surgical procedure. Each treatment takes about one-half hour in to treat each area. Although patients don’t necessarily see results immediately, these people report some positive results after the procedure has been done at least six different times (at two to four week intervals). Who are the best candidates for the procedure? Cosmetologists in the Beverly Hills area say that anyone from ages 18 to 80 can receive the treatment, but they’ve seen the best results in patients with ages between 30 and 40, due to the fact that the skin is more prone to tightening during those ages. Also, when people do Venus Freeze treatment at an earlier age, the results are quicker, and the recovery time is shorter. If you are considering a Venus Freeze treatment for tightening your skin, keep in mind that it’s in your best interest to consult with your primary physician beforehand. Apparently some of the medical spas offer these types of treatments, but to ensure better, safer results, you’re always better off getting a licensed cosmetologist to do the work for you.…
