What is Collagen Protein & Collagen Peptides Found in the connective tissue of animals, especially vertebrates, collagen is a group of proteins that  are naturally found in the body. Collagen protein serves multiple functions for humans, including being the basis for connective and fibrous tissues. At Beleza, most of the focus on collagen is centered on its’ role in skin elasticity and firmness. Collagen serves as the structural support for skin, so as we age, this structure decreases. With time, age and collagen breakdown, skin looses firmness and the ability to bounce back when pulled or stretched. This loss of structure and elasticity allows gravity to take its toll and pull the fatty tissue and skin in the face downward. Wrinkles from expressions begin to linger after the expression is gone and both deep and fine lines appear. Skin Collagen Collagen is almost 90% of our skin’s dermis, so the change in the appearance of skin can be dramatic when collagen starts to fade. Around the age of thirty, collagen production in the skin decreases at an average rate of 1% a year. During the next several decades, the slowdown is even more dramatic. So, what do we do to prevent or slow down this collagen breakdown? Some of the factors are environmental and genetic; if your parents and grandparents showed their ages prematurely, it is likely that you will, too. Collagen & Sunscreen To delay the onset of wrinkles and loss of firmness as long as possible, a few steps can be taken. First, sunscreen. We probably sound like a broken record at this point, but there is nothing better you can do for your skin that slather on sunscreen every single day, and reapply when sweat or swimming is involved. Amp up your protection with sunglasses to shield the delicate skin around the eyes and a wide brimmed hat to provide shade on the face, neck and chest. Skin Antioxidants Second, never forget your antioxidants. Vitamin C and E protect your skin against free radicals and help to rebuild collagen. When you apply skincare products to a clean and dry face, apply them thickest to thinnest; this usually means your Vitamin C and E (generally supplied in the form of a serum) will be applied underneath your thicker lotions and creams. Retinols Third, use a retinol. Beleza provides prescriptions for a personalized blend of hydroquinone and retinol, which can produce a drastic difference in skin pigmentation and help to increase collagen production when applied nightly. Collagen Peptides Recent research has shown that taking collagen supplements may have many health benefits.  There are many types of collagen each composed of different collagen peptides.  These collagen peptides can be found in collagen powders & collagen pills. Collagen supplements may improve skin health by reducing wrinkles and dryness and they may also help increase muscle mass, prevent bone loss, and relieve joint pain. Collagen Induction Therapy The basis of many skin rejuvenation and skin tightening procedures involve collagen stimulation by collagen induction therapy or CIT.  CIT basically involves wounding the skin cells that produce collagen to stimulate them to make new collagen.  This can be done with needles like Microneedling, lasers like CO2 Laser Resurfacing and ultrasound like Ultherapy.…

After Botox Injections Care Instructions

What happens after Botox injections? Immediately after Botox injections, you may leave the office with a few bumps. These bumps consist of the botox that was injected either under the skin or in the muscle.  No need to worry as they will resolve on their own in 5-10 minutes.   You do not need to rub them or do any facial exercises to help them resolve.  Just give them time and they will slowly vanish! Once the bumps resolve, the only other thing to look for after botox is an occasional bruise.  Botox injections are mostly a blind procedure and no matter how much we try to avoid it, we may hit a blood vessel.  The area around the eyes  is especially prone to bruising.  The good thing is that bruises will all resolve on their own with time. Botox Cosmetic Effects It then becomes a waiting game as we wait for the botox to take effect.  In most patients some effects of the botox will be seen within a few days. The muscles that were injected will begin to become weaker and their associated wrinkles will resolve.  Full effect of Botox may take up to two weeks.  It is important to wait a full two weeks before judging the results of your botox injections.  Botox side effects can include bruising and headaches. How long does Botox Last? The effects of botox injections will typically last 3-4 months.  If you stay on a regular schedule, the muscles will remain in a weakened state. Studies have shown the subsequent botox injections will tend to last even longer if you do not allow the effects to completely wear off.  There are patients who the effects of Botox will be shorter than average or longer.  There is no way to predict or change the results for these patients. Zinc-Zytaste There are no tricks to prolonging the effects of Botox.  The best strategy is to return for injections when you see about 50% of the muscle action return.  By keeping the muscles in a continually weakened state, the effects of Botox can be maximized.  Of interest is the recent introduction of a supplement called Zytaste.  Zytaste consists of zinc and an enzyme called phytase which increases the zinc absorption.  Zinc appears to be important for the effects of Botox on the muscles.  In one study 92% of subjects who took Zytaste experienced a 30% average increase in duration effect of the injected neurotoxin. More importantly, 84% of the study participants reported a subjective improvement in the drug effect.  It is believed that many patients have a zinc deficiency and that’s why the Zytatse helped the Botox effects.  It may be worthwhile to check zinc levels in patients who complain of short duration botox effects. A Natural Facelift Alternative Beleza Medspa Austin TX is proud to introduce a new facelift alternative procedure, the NeoJuvenescence Lift. Utilizing the body’s own ability to heal itself, the NeoJuvenescence Lift combines both surgical and nonsurgical procedures to produce natural results. Online PR News – 30-April-2013 – The results of traditional facelift surgery are well known. It’s not hard to figure out who had a facelift, with the unnatural, pulled-back appearance it produces. Even worse, facelifts leave big scars, are expensive and require general anesthesia. Considering the cost, risks and results, the facelift is a procedure that has seen better times. “The traditional facelift like many cosmetic surgery procedures, is out of sync with what patients want in 2013,” reports Beleza Medspa. “Patients do not want to go under, pay exorbitant fees, have big scars and have artificial results,” they report. What if it’s possible to harness the body’s unique ability to heal itself to produce a more natural facelift? The NeoJuvenescence Lift just does that. The Neojuvenescence Lift combines a series of rejuvenation procedures that are on the cutting edge of cosmetic surgery. It utilizes your own fat, stem cells, growth factors and skin cells to do all the work. Combining a series of cutting edge surgical and non-surgical procedures, the NeoJuvenescence Lift restores youthful facial volume and contours while draping freshened and tighter skin over it. “What we noticed over the years performing each of these procedures, is that when we combined them, results were multiplied”, reports Beleza. Performed entirely under local anesthesia with minimal sedation, the NeoJuvenescence Lift is safe and effective. The procedure begins with fat transfer that harvests stem cell rich fat from a donor site. Attention is then turned to the chin and neck area where Smartlipo Liposuction is performed. This phase of the treatment removes double chins, tightens neck skin and reduces the jowls. A blood sample is then drawn to isolate platelet rich plasma (PRP). PRP contains a wealth of natural growth factors that can stimulate stem cells and induce tissue repair. The final phase of the procedure involves  laser resurfacing and facial fat transfer. A CO2 fractional laser is used to remove the upper layer of skin containing visible sun damage as well as providing overall skin tightening. The previously harvested fat is then transferred to the face to rebuild cheek and brow volume and youthful contours. Finally, the PRP is applied throughout the face to stimulate the stem cell differentiation into new cells and induce tissue repair. The results of the NeoJuvenescence Lift are nothing but dramatic. The skin looks tighter and fresher, the cheeks and brow appear fuller while the jawline and chin are better defined. This is all accomplished by using only the body’s ability to repair itself. No artificial fillers, large incisions or general anesthesia is necessary. Just natural results with natural face lift alternative! Beleza Medspa adds, “The Neojuvenescence Lift combines a series of rejuvenation procedures that are on the cutting edge of cosmetic surgery. It utilizes your own fat, stem cells, growth factors and skin cells to do all the work. Our goal is to restore youthful upper facial volume while removing the excess lower facial volume of aging. We also stimulate the skin to rebuild collagen and tighten so it drape better over the new facial contours,” he reports. “Unlike the facelift that just treats the symptoms, the Neojuvenescence Lift actually treats the underlying problems that we see as aging.” The name NeoJuvenescence Lift was chosen quite deliberately to reflect the nature of the procedure. Juvenescence means growing young and Neo is defined as new. So the Neojuvenescence Lift reflect a new ability to grow young! See the Press Release here!…

Did you see Kim Kardashian have the Microneedling with PRP Facelift? Recently on her reality show, Kim Kardashian had a Microneedling with PRP Facelift performed.  The pictures she released were dramatic and caused quite a stir.  Reactions ranged from shock to curiosity.  So what exactly did Kim have done?  What is Microneedling with PRP Facelift?  Why did her face look like that? The Microneedling with PRP Facelift. The Microneedling with PRP Facelift is a cosmetic dermatology procedure that combines a dermal filler with platelet rich plasma (PRP).   PRP is prepared by obtaining a blood sample and separating the platelets from the blood.  The platelets are then activated to release their growth factors.  These growth factors attract new cells, repair damage and stimulate new tissue growth.  A dermal filler like Juvederm or Radiesse is combined with PRP to provide volume. The combination of the facial filler and PRP leads to rejuvenation of the skin and improved appearance.  Although it has a scary name, the Microneedling with PRP Facelift, is a safe and natural treatment. Why does her face look like that? The Microneedling with PRP Facelift is usually administered with several injections.  It has the same side effects of any cosmetic injections like swelling, redness and bruising.   Kim had another type of PRP injection performed.  She had microneedling or Dermapen used to make small perforations in the skin. The PRP was then placed on the surface of her skin to be absorbed through the perforations. This gave Kim’s face the bloody appearance you see in the pictures! So who is the Microneedling with PRP Facelift for? Kim is young at 32 and appears to have good skin.  Since it is a rejuvenation procedure, the Microneedling with PRP Facelift is ideal for aging skin and/or those with advanced sun damage.  The PRP injections can be performed alone, added to a filler as in the Microneedling with PRP Facelift, added to a fat transfer procedure or added after DOT laser therapy.  These procedures can be combined depending on the individualized needs of the patient. What is Microneedling with PRP Facelift Cost? The Microneedling with PRP Facelift not only uses your own PRP, but includes a syringe of dermal filler. Depending on the filler used and the amount of PRP prepared, the Microneedling with PRP Facelift cost runs between $1200-$1500. What exactly are Face Wrinkles? Well, face wrinkles are creases, folds or lines in the skin.  They can form for many reasons but most are due to aging.  Ultraviolet radiation from sun exposure wreaks havoc on our skin.  It causes the production of the building block of our skin, collagen, to slow and breakdown.  This causes thinning of the skin and loss of elasticity and the appearance of fine lines.  Smoking further accelerates aging of the skin.  Lets look at wrinkles treatment for face wrinkles & eye wrinkles, as well as wrinkles creams. Deep Wrinkles Skin is also backed by a full layer of connective tissue, fat, muscle and bone.  It is this underlying support that further gives skin a youthful appearance.  As we age or after massive weight loss, we lose this underlying support which leads to wrinkling and sagging of the skin.  This tends to cause the deeper wrinkles and lines that we see on our faces. Types of Wrinkles Wrinkles can also be defined whether they are static or dynamic.  Static wrinkles are present all the time while dynamic wrinkles occur only with facial movement.  Static wrinkles usually represent sign of aging and loss of collagen.  Dynamic wrinkles are normal as we express emotions.  However, repeated use of facial muscles can eventually convert dynamic wrinkles into permanent lines.  When we are younger, the skin easily bounces back but as we age it loses that ability.  Eye wrinkles are one form of dynamic wrinkles. Where do Face Wrinkles form? Wrinkles can form anywhere on the body where sun damage occurs.  The face receives a lot of sun exposure and has many facial muscle movements.  This makes face wrinkles very common.  The wrinkles tend to form in relation to the muscles of facial expression.  They form perpendicular to these muscles.  Under Eye wrinkles form across the eye muscles that close the eye.  Forehead wrinkles appear across the muscles that lift the brow.   Wrinkles around mouth form across the circular muscle that purses the lips. How do we Prevent Wrinkles? Generally what is good for your body is good for your skin.  Good nutrition, regular exercise, quality sleep and not smoking are essential for skin health. You can’t expect to lead an unhealthy lifestyle and have good skin.  Genetics does play a role in skin health and wrinkles but we have no control over it. Wrinkle Creams Protecting ourselves from the sun is critical.  Sun block, hats, sunglasses and avoiding the sun are all good practices.  Mineral makeups and the regular use of antioxidants can also help prevent sun damage to the skin.  The best wrinkle cream to  prevent wrinkles is the prescription tretinoin cream (retin A). Research has shown that the cream for wrinkles, retin a can stimulate skin cell turnover as well as collagen production.  Other effective wrinkle creams include antioxidants, vitamin C, and peptides. The easiest way to prevent dynamic wrinkles from becoming static wrinkles is with the regular use of neurotoxins like Botox and Dysport.   Relaxing the muscles of facial expression will smooth lines and prevent the conversion of these wrinkles into long-lasting facial features.  Dermal fillers like Juvederm and Radiesse can restore facial volume and further prevent wrinkle formation. What is the Best Wrinkles Treatment? Once they have formed, wrinkles are hard to remove.  Botox and dysport are used to relax the muscles that caused them and provide some smoothing, especially eye wrinkles and forehead wrinkles.  However, if they are very deep, wrinkle treatment will require filling and support.  Dermal fillers like Juvederm and Radiesse can be used to further fill these lines.  Fat transfer offers the ability to naturally restore facial volume and smooth wrinkles. How to Remove Wrinkles Laser treatments like CO2 Laser Resurfacing can be used to resurface the skin as well as stimulate collagen production.  They are ideal for patients that have profound sun damage and signs of aging.  Chemical peels can also treat superficial to deep wrinkles depending on their depth of penetration. What do I begin Face Wrinkles Treatment? The best first step is to make a free consultation with one of our aestheticians or nurse injectors.  They will evaluate your skin and formulate a customized treatment plan to prevent and remove wrinkles.…

Rid Cellulite on Thighs Loose skin and extra fatty tissue can combine to give the thighs a misshapen, saggy appearance. Cellulite is the unsightly dimpling that affects mainly women of all ages.  It is due to small attachments between the skin and underlying connective tissue that traps fat in between.  Caused mostly by estrogen and genetics, cellulite is not curable but is treatable.  There are now several invasive and non-invasive ways to rid cellulite, and deal with it you’ll want to! Saggy skin and cellulite around the thighs can add the illusion of heft to the body and age the thighs significantly, causing loss of confidence and a self-consciousness about appearance. Cellulite Laser One option for an invasive procedure is the cellulite laserCellulaze for the thighs. Cellulaze, developed by the same company that released SmartLipo technology, called Cynosure, utilizes a laser to melt fat, promote skin tightening and break down tissue through very small incisions in the skin. There are a few small differences in SmartLipo and Cellulaze technology but both can be used on the thigh area. The primary goal of SmartLipo is to allow the physician to create an improved shape by strategically subtracting tissue from an area. Cellulaze is slightly different in the way that it specifically targets cellulite. Cellulite is generally identified by the dimpling of the skin in the area; the dimpling is caused by the tug of fibrous bands on the skin from the tissue underneath. To combat the tug of this skin and reduce the dimpling effect of cellulite, half of the laser beam used during a Cellulaze treatment is redirected at a 45 degree angle so that the fibers under the surface of the skin are broken down. Fat is still melted at the deeper level, but breakdown of those tugging tissue bands allows the dimpled skin to release and even at the surface.  The effects of Cellulaze can be similarly accomplished with Smartlipo Laser Liposuction. Venus Freeze A less invasive cellulite treatment option is Venus Freeze.  Venus Freeze uses radiofrequency energy to heat the underlying tissues and fat to a certain temperature.  This heat has been shown to reduce fat, tighten skin and reduce cellulite.  Venus Freeze is a very comfortable and repeatable procedure. Smartlipo If cellulite is not a problem in your thighs, SmartLipo of the thighs may be a better option for you. Using local anesthetic, Dr. Broder gives you a reduced, sleek thigh during a pain-free surgery and reduced recovery time. Both procedures are minimally invasive and have very little recovery time compared to traditional liposuction procedures. And, because there is no need for general anesthetic, the cost is also significantly less. If you’re considering cellulite treatment of thighs, visit Beleza Medspa for a free consultation to determine if the procedure is right for you!…

Are You Curious about Facial Fillers or Dermal Fillers? Facial fillers originally evolved as collagen injections.  Fillers for the face focused on smoothing major lines like the laugh lines.  Since then, our understanding of facial anatomy and aging has progressed.  We now understand that aging is more than just lines and wrinkles, but a matter of overall facial volume loss.  As we age we begin to lose fat, muscle and bone in our faces.  This is in addition to the loss of elasticity of our skin.  As as result, not only do we lose volume in our brows and cheeks, but the remaining volume begins to shift downward. Looking at a youthful face, we see most of the volume is in the upper face in the brow and cheeks.  We call this the upside down triangle.  When we look at the aged face, we notice the volume has been lost in the brow and cheeks and has shifted towards the jawline with jowling.  The triangle has been turned right side up! Dermal Fillers So our goal in facial volume restoration with face fillers is to restore some of this upper face fullness.  This will give you far more bang for the buck than just smoothing lines and wrinkles.  Dermal fillers used to fill the brow and cheeks restore youthful appearance far more than filling smile lines. Juvederm We also have many facial fillers to choose from now.  They have progressed to safer and less painful forms with the addition of local anesthetics.  There are the hyaluronic fillers like Juvederm and Restylane which are based on a natural building block of the skin.  They can be used virtually anywhere on the face and can last up to a year.  There are stimulatory synthetic dermal fillers like Radiesse.  Radiesse actually stimulates your own collagen growth and can last over a year.  The ultimate filler for the face is your own fat!  Fat transfer now offers the ability to harvest live fat cells and transfer them to your face.  These are your own cells and are very safe.  Fat is also rich with stem cells that offer the potential for even more rejuvenation.  We can now couple fat transfer with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) or Microneedling with PRP Facelift, to add growth factors that further stimulate stem cell growth and rejuvenation. Microcannulas The other limiting factor with facial fillers has been the need for multiple injections.  Not only is this painful, but each needle stick can cause bleeding and bruising.  We now possess new techniques with microcannulas.  These are blunt, long thin tubes that allow us to inject the dermal fillers through a single injection site.  The comfort and safety of these microcannulas is changing our use of facial fillers. The future of face fillers appears to be moving towards fat transfer and stem cells.  The dermal fillers offer a quicker alternative and are preferred for smoothing lines and wrinkles.  Fat doesn’t have the stiffness necessary to smooth most deep wrinkles, but it is great at overall volume replacement.  If you are interested in facial fillers please come in for a free consultation.  We can discuss your needs as well as all the options available. The injectors at Beleza Medspa are experts at all types of facial fillers.…

A trained professional  can clean and exfoliate your skin. A basic facial consists of the following steps: Skin analysis: During the skin analysis, you’ll want to tell your esthetician any skin problems you’re concerned about. The skin care expert will then look at your face with a magnifying lamp to assess what problems can be addressed. Some skin care problems may require a dermatologist, who is a medical professional, for diagnosis or treatment.  If you are concerned a lesion may be cancerous, always go to a dermatologist first for assessment. Cleansing: During the cleansing portion of a basic facial, facial products are selected according to  your specific skin type (oily, dry or combination). This stage should be comfortable and relaxing and leave a cleaner skin. Exfoliation: The esthetician will usually use a combination of steam and a gritty textured product to exfoliate the face. The exfoliation process will leave the skin bright and smooth as it removes the dead, upper layer of skin. Possible extractions: If you choose to have extractions, which can sometimes be uncomfortable, the esthetician will wear gloves and extract the blackheads on your face.  This is done carefully to prevent scarring and infection. Massage: One of the most relaxing parts of a basic facial  is the massage, when the esthetician uses specific strokes to stimulate the face, neck and even shoulders.  This improves circulation and relaxes you! Mask: Finally, the facial ends with a mask that is appropriate for your assessed skin type. The results of your facial should be a more glowing and radiant appearance and improved texture of your skin. You should also now be aware of facial care habits that you should maintain to improve your skin. Beleza offers a variety of facial types.
