What is the Vampire FaceLift?
Vampire FaceLift, is also referred to as PRP – which stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. Basically, we take growth factors contained in the platelets in your blood, and use them to stimulate new cell growth and repair throughout your body.
How does it work?
A quick blood sample is taken from you as you have had done many times before. We then centrifuge or spin the blood to separate out the platelet rich layer. Platelets as you remember, are the cells that circulate in your blood and respond to injuries. At the ste of injury, they break apart and release a host of growth factors and chemical signals. These chemicals stop bleeding as well as attract new cells to to begin to repair the injury.

So how do we trick the platelets into thinking there is injury? We add small amounts of calcium to the platelet rich plasma that causes them to break apart and release their growth facts. All of a sudden we have a sample of your body’s growth factors to use anywhere we want!

PRP has been used for many years by Orthopedists and athletes to treat injuries and speed healing.
So how do we use it for a facelift? The cells that make the collagen in your skin are called fibroblasts. There are also untold numbers of stem cells, cells that can become any type of cell, dormant throughout your body. So we use the PRP growth factors to stimulate the fibroblasts, awaken stem cells and attract new cells to the area. The result should be rejuvenation and rebuilding of your skin. We combine the use of a dermal filler like Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse or Artefill with PRP. The filler restores volume and when expertly injected, can provide a lifting effect. The PRP enhances the effect of the filler by stimulating collagen production and new skin formation. The PRP may extend the duration and effect of the filler by months. Either procedure alone has tremendous benefits, but when combined the results are amplified!

PRP Therapy Used as Stand-Alone Skin Rejuvenation
Younger patients do not necessarily need dermal fillers and volume restoration. In these cases we can use the PRP alone to stimulate collagen formation and awaken stem cells. All in a 20 minute procedure!

PRP Therapy Used as Laser Resurfacing Enhancement
Fractional laser treatments (like DOT therap) are known for their ability to resurface skin. After DOT therapy, we have a unique opportunity to use PRP. The fractional nature of the treatment leave millions of perforations in the skin. So we can actually apply the PRP to surface and it can be absorbed in the skin without any injections! The DOT therapy is designed to stimulate collagen production and the PRP is used to enhance the effect as well as speed healing.

PRP Therapy Used to Assist Fat Transfer
We now know that fat is rich in stem cells. When we transfer fat, we are also performing a stem cell transplant! Studies have shown that it is these stem cells that are responsible for the lasting effects of fat transfer to the face, breasts and buttocks. So the addition of PRP to the transferred fat is ideal to stimulate stem cell differentiation!
